Stay out of those damn things. I've owned one since 1990 and used it heavily until 2003 when I was diagnosed with Basal Cell Carcinoma and had it surgically removed. I had biospies done on Monday for two other suspicious areas. The one on my arm is Actinin Kerotosis, a precancerous condition. The other one on my chest near my shoulder is Squamous Cell Carcinoma. More surgeries on July 21st.

Free tanning bed available in the Dallas area for anyone who wants to come get it. :freak:

It's on its way for me. Skin cancer runs in the family and I'm always at the beach. I have been all my life. My back is riddled with freckles and moles... little dots of skin cancer. But my nose and ears will be the first to go.

Good thing you found out about it early. My grandmother had it bad on her face and had to get multiple plastic surgeries to fix it.

Do it. She may look beautiful now but she might regret it later. I used to think I looked good too but now I'm paying for it. When I pulled the bandage off of my face after my first surgery three years ago and saw stitches that looked like Frankenstein to me, I knew my tanning days were over and that I'd have to be cautious in the future.

I'm going to take a sledgehammer to the tanning bed this weekend. :thu:

Sorry to hear that jeff .. Hopefully you'll pull through again and the surgeries are successful ..

Its a known fact that, the # of new cases of skin cancer has gone up ,even though sunblock sales are higher than ever..

probably because the ozone layer being less and less protective and the quality of the sunblocks going down...it all goes ape{censored}!

Thanks SA83. I'll probably be ok depending on how deep it is. I've been through it before so I know what to expect. No fear.

Yep, I did the beach/pool thing too in addition to the tanning bed. My back is the same as yours, lots of little freckles and moles. I thought this little thing on my chest was a mole. Apparently not. Be diligent and check on yourself frequently. This {censored} ain't cool.

Thats true , more ultra violent rays attacking the skin..

but after studying the integumentarysystem in class . I've come to the conclusion , we're not built to be exposed to the the sun, the cells can't sustain protecting us during extreme exposure .. no matter the products we put on our skin or the shape of the enviroment .

Even with a nice amount of melanin in my skin , exposure to the sun is something i don't wanna play wit ..

Hey, I just studied the integumentary system in class a couple of weeks ago. Based on that knowledge and my experience, I agree with everything you said.

Those tanning beds are perfect for growing skin cancers...they're like giant petri dishes.

It's like the epitomy of image over common sense. This is why I prefer women who are white and thus will age better and have nice soft skin for longer.

My uncle had all sorts of surgeries, burnings, skin grafts etc to combat SC. The bad news is once you start getting them, that's just the tip of the iceberg. :(

I've been able to reverse the early stages of skin cancers on me by putting Vitamin C serum cream on them daily. I've completely reversed several beligerant cancers this way...give it a try. Can take about a month for some, but you'll see reduction in weeks or even days with most.

They offered the cream on the Actinin Keratosis but the only guarantee is surgury. I need to be guaranteed.:wave:

But thanks for the advice.

Lots of pics please!

Guess I should be more careful....Tough when you grew up in the tropics and live in Southern California!

Get better!
