Members JeffreyCH
Ok - I've narrowed it down to these 2 combos. I'm selling my Orange Rockerverb 50W head as I really need a small combo for easy transportation/portability. I also want less watts although I know both of these amps are quite loud. I've still got my Reeves Studio/Stage MKII head - 20/40 watts switchable as my super nice and super dependable (hand wired PTP military spec) boutique amp. Which amp takes pedals better as far as dirt/fuzz go? - I realize that depends on the pedal, but I need some real world experience comments. I'll be running my Mayo through it and lots of other pedals such as: DD20, Whammy, Moog phaser, Keeley Comp, Keely Javaboost, Keeley Rat, Keeley Boss TR2, Mojovibe, etc. Real world reliability experiences? Any body A/B these 2 amps? I imagine the Vox will have more chime (I get quite a bit with my Reeves - EL84) The Fender better reverb and vibrato. Fender will probably be brighter and the Vox more creamy/warm? Thanks - which one would you buy and why?

Members ode2no1
i just bought a DRRI, but i was originally looking to get the ac15cc. i dont know if youre talking about an original ac15 or not, but the new ones didnt do it for me at all. i mean it was bright as all hell...even with the treble all the way down it was bright. it just didnt seem to offer much. the DRRI on the other hand is pretty amazing sounding. nice, round cleans and the overdrive you can get from it is great. it takes to pedals really well too. Members SeeMoore
I have DRRI and it's one sweet sounding little amp, I play it more than my Dr Z Maz 38, matterof fact, I may sell the Z and get another DRRI and some pedals.

Members DeuceII
Here's my take: I've only used the DRRI at school as a jazz amp, no pedals. Sounds great for that. I've got a buddy that uses one for his rock band, says its good with dirt pedals, lots of headroom, good reverb. He switched to a Bassman and matching 2x12, tons more bottom end, likes it better but no reverb. I bought a TopHat VibTrem, very similar to a Vox AC15CC. About 18 watts, Class A, two EL84s, tube rectifier (not sure about that on the Vox), and low watt Alnico speaker (Mojotone in mine, not Celestion Blue). I looked at a new Vox AC15CC as well, but got the TopHat used for $200 more. I planned on using it mainly for jazz, and it sounded much more alive and vibrant than the Vox.*EDIT* I tried one with the standard speaker. I hated the reverb on the Vox, very digital/mechanical sounding. The EQ was decent, didn't seem too bright for my archtop (a fairly bright guitar when amplified). Now I'm down to just the TopHat for all my sounds, not just jazz, until I can afford a good rock amp again. It hated my dirt pedals. I got rid of some, tried others, got rid of more. You may have the same problem if you go with the Vox w/ Celestion Blue, it may be an issue with low watt Alnico speakers, don't know. BUT, I'd still take the sound of EL84's over 6V6's any day, just my personal preference. Bottom line, after this whole novel, if you need reverb and use a lot of dirt pedals, DRRI. If you just can't get away from that EL84 sound, Vox. And in the end, either way you won't go too wrong.
Members StratStevo
I bought a DRRI and only kept it overnight, awesome cleans but the Vibrato/Reverb channel does not like many common dirt pedals...the Normal/No Reverb channel takes pedals fine. But if I am going to own an amp with the name Deluxe Reverb..I want that reverb mixed in with my 35 year old collection of pedals. Other than that its an awesome piece of kit

Members JeffreyCH
Do the new DRRI's sound anything like these clips?? This amp is tempting, but more than I want to spend. I guess I could go to GC and try the Fender - yuk, I hate GC - I imagine this weekend it's a madhouse with the holiday.http://www.fargenamps.com/blackbird.html http://www.fargenamps.com/Blackbird1.mp3 http://www.fargenamps.com/blackbird8.MP3 http://www.fargenamps.com/blackbird10.MP3 Oh my! Members Trick Fall
It's funny, I remember when I got my DRRI everyone was bitching about how crappy they sounded and how the speakers sucked etc. But you know what, I have a silverface champ, a JCM 800, a Marshall JTM 610, an old 60's Sound Amp and have played with lots of Marshalls, Twins, Ampegs and a Matchless or two over the years and nothing has been more satisfying to play than the DRRI. Members Craise
DRRI can be made to sound really good. If you buy look for one with upgrades, like NOS tubs, Better Speaker, bright cap mod. Haven't heard a AC15cc but I did hear a AC30cc and it sounded pretty good. I have played my friend's Korg AC15 and it's really good. Real Blackface is the way to go..really... If you have the cash. IMHO though I would get 1. Real Blackface DR 2. Silverface DR "blackfaced" 3. Vox Korg AC15 4. Upgraded DRRI 5. VoxAC15cc 6. Stock DRRI ymmv:thu:
