Jacques, Prisoner bbd delay... yowza!

I had a chance last week to demo a Jacqes Prisoner analog delay for a few days and boy was I surprised by the twisted delay sounds lurking within this little beastie.

pt.1 is here!

(excuse the rattling window - quite a windy day)

:freak:

Now that it's gone, I can feel the g.a.s. building for a Prisoner delay of my own. This was my first time trying a Jacqes pedal and I'm very impressed. Are there any Trinity owners out here? That also looks like a fun one.

I've had one for about 3-4 months now and LOVE this thing.

People have been blowing it off because it doesn't self-oscillate, but I don't think they truly grasp how f'ing cool the Modulation control is. Way more useful and musical, IMO...

John - when you get ready to pull the trigger, I highly recommend Steve's Music Center (linky on the Jacques site as an authorized dealer). The best price around ($199 shipped), and Steve does great customer service.

The prisoner seems to sound clearer and not as dark (possibly less noise). Also, the modulation on the DMM doesn't go that slow.

One thing that seems nice about the Prisoner as well is that you can control rate and depth for the modulation. You can not do this on a DMM.

The first twenty seconds of the clip are wonderfully sweet modulated delay. My AD202, DMM, DD20 do that as well.

After that it gets into the kind of pitch shifting, jam band, twilight zone sounds that are fun to play at home or while under the influence. I already have the PDS 20/20 for that kind of stuff.

Thanks for the clip. GAS eliminated on this pedal for me.

I have enough analog delays for a lifetime, I think, but Jacques' pedals do look intriguing, such as the Trinity, Bat Fuzz, and the Geisha.

The only thing that bummed me out was he didn't have a stereo chorus.

PS - it seems like analog delay pedals are making a comeback. New sources of bucket brigade chips seem to be firming up, as Moog as also gotten back in the game, as has Maxon with their 999.
