Members swillie
I am thinking of buying a TC Electronics G-Major to compliment my TSL100 half stack. I currently own a Boss GT-6 and I am wanting to know if I will notice much of an improvement in the quality of effects between the two units. I am only interested in the modulation type effects for in the loop of the amp. I reside in Northern Queensland, Australia and don

Members SweetPete
Swillie, I've been using a GT-6 in the FX loop of my Marshall 30th Anny amp for quite some time. I've never been happy with the combo - the GT-6 is a tone-sucker. I've tried just the simple loop setup as well as the 4-cable method. The amp-sims in the GT-6 are fine, and sound good thru my 30th, as do the FX themselves. But when I'm only using the FX, the natural Marshall tone is lost because of the GT-6. The GT-6 is NOT transparent. I've since switched to the G-Major and am VERY happy. No tone loss from the 30th that I can hear, and the FX on the G-Major are way better than the GT-6. Members swillie
SweetPete, Thankyou so much for your reply. Could you please be so kind as to answer a few more questions for me. 1. I see you recently submitted a post regarding an issue you had with the G-Major's chorus. Did you sort that problem out? 2. You said the G-Major is transparent. Do you notice any change in your amps tone when switching your amps effects loop on and off while leaving the G-Major in bypass mode or while the signal is still going through the unit with no effects engaged? 3. Also, what controller do you use to control the G-Major? I have been looking at the DMC Ground Control as it appears to be fairly flexible. Thankyou. Members SweetPete
Swillie, 1. I got my G-Major back from TC just a few days ago. The chorus is now working fine. The repair order doesn't say what they fixed. 2. The Marshall 30th Anny amp doesn't have the ability to turn on/off the FX loop. You have to do it manually - by plugging/unplugging the G-Major from the amp. Even doing so, I don't hear any difference between the G-Major being in the loop and not being in the loop. When I turn on the G-Major's bypass, or use my "clean slate" preset (no FX whatsover), the amp sounds the same in either case. I agree with TC's claim that the G-Major is transparent. However, if you read some of the reviews of the G-Major here at HC, some folks claim otherwise. I guess it depends on the amp being used, perhaps. BTW, the loop on the 30th can be configured for serial or parallel - I'm running it in serial as per the TC recommendation (the G-Major maintains the dry signal internally). 3. I'm currently using the Axess Electronics MFC5. The Boss GT-6 works just fine too, as would probably any MIDI foot controller.
