I wish I could do that, but to get my amp roaring would get me evicted for sure. I do have to remind myself to just plug straight into my amp from time to time and enjoy a 'simplicity is bliss' moment.

So they buy an expensive overdrive pedal.

Members TIKILOCKEDOUT
I've been saying this since 2002! ... there are soooo many OD's and dirt boxes out there because they are usually the first thing and easiest thing for boutiquers to build off the bat - same goes for fuzz. I have been crying out for boutiquers to build more interesting and freaky modulation and delay units for the entire time I've been here but to no avail ... So in short ... I fookin agree cocksuckers! EDIT - Add to that fact that in all the years I've been here I've only ever bought one boutique pedal which remains on my board! Members dixxon
I guess it was the HC reviews of the John Landgraff OD pedal that got me to start this thread...I'm sure it's a fine sounding pedal...but it just seemed like the universal superlatives contained in the reviews were in direct proportion to the unsually high cost..$300 plus... It's my '64 BF Super Reverb that does the job for me...my point with the BAD MONKEY was that it didn't make that amp sound that much better than a pedal 3 or 4 times it's cost...with the notable exception of the KLON which I love and is, I beliece worth $300. I once had that KLON stolen and found it a week later on eBay !!! (I recognized a small ding on the front)..it was located at a used gear store where I live. I got it back. The police complimented me on my "great detective work" !!!

Ummm well if anything is to be had out of this thread, its this: Take the HC Reviews with a veeeeery tiny grain of salt. I would take gear advice from Hyphy before I would buy a pedal solely based upone what I've read on the review pages. Sometimes reviews are actually quality, but most of them are idiots that have spent 20 minutes with the pedal after bringing it home and they can't wait to hop on HC and tell everybody about their gear setup and their musical tastes before ejaculating a review based on almost no playing time. Members endo23
But the funniest part of this is that the guy who started the thread is saying the Klon, probably the most hyped OD pedal ever, is WORTH THE $$$Which is exactly what I say about my Eternity.Which is exactly why I say, try a bunch of ODs and find the one you like best. Then, for the love of God, stop searching. Stop reading about every pedal that comes out claiming to be more transparent, more "sweet," etc etc and just trust your ears. There are a LOT of great ODs out there. Find one, then move on... to delays, preferably.

Members dixxon
How about Reverb Pedals ?...specifically those that purport to emulate "spring reverb" Reverb is my favorite effect... or, at least, the one I most like to have...I recently gigged w/ a Twin Reverb Reissue that was supplied by the venue and the reverb didn't work.. Really missed it and wished I had a reveb pedal of some sort. Not a delay pedal. What's a good one ?
Members Mr. Shankly
I think having all sorts of options for OD/fuzz/dist is great. Plus once you get into cascading gain for interesting/unique sounds instead of looking for one holy grail (there isn't one) things get way more interesting. There just is ! I am/was a pedal-junky like a lot of you and have owned more than 100 OD pedals since 1976...and yes, there are 1 or 2 that are stand-outs and may be worth $300-$400.... Here's the thing: I recently bought a Digitech Bad Monkey...I was "lowering" myself to do this because I'm a pedal snob...but it was cheap and I was bored with what I had so..what the Hell ! This pedal is as good or better than any other OD pedal...I don't care who makes it. This isn't meant as a pat on the back to Digitech...it's meant as a reprimand to the boutique pedal makers. If you can play and you have a quality TUBE AMP in working order..any one of the many OD pedals out there will sound good. I'm also finished reading reviews on these things on HC..they're becoming like parodies anyway. Obviously, if you just paid $400 for basically a unit that does no more/less than a $40 pedal...of course you have to convince yourself that it's the HOLY GRAIL or else you'd have to kill yourself. I actually know a seemingly sane player who believes that the paintjob on his $450 OD pedal contributes to his "stellar tone"...the PAINT JOB ??? It was probably the KLON CENTAUR that started this whole thing 12 years ago...and, despite what I have said..I do believe the KLON is the best of what is out there. back away slowly from the bong! you put your bad monkey in with my zen, cactus crunch, eternity, timmy, etc, and guess what? you lose!
