Man, you weren't kidding!

Just scored a D-Two off Craigslist for $250 and it's killing!

I love this thing. Spent 2 hours just twiddling knobs and I think it's pretty damn sweet so far!

What the hell does that mean?

I've been using the DD-20 for streets also. So far, I set it on modulated with the level about 3:00 and the time at 365. Feedback about 10:00. I'm not totally sold on this setting though.

Anybody else using the DD-20 that can share their settings for this song?

Streets actually probably doesn't have a lot of modulation on it...

Try turning the modulation down and the feedback up.

Would you be able to post those delay/no delay comparisons again? The links are no longer valid.

Yes.

The key really is getting the right delay time with the right dotted-eighth note groove going.

It's like a lightbulb going off when you first capture that...and that's the reason so many people say they can "nail" Edge's tone with different gear.

In reality, a single digital delay set to the right time with the right number of repeats will get you 85% of the way there. The remaining 15% is a lot harder to attain, and to tell the truth, most people out there won't be able to tell the difference!

Streets recipe:

Strat mid/bridge pickup.

Compressor

Single digital delay of your choice. Around 350ms 3 repeats.

Analog delays don't sound right. There are NO double delays.

Slightly overdriven vintage amp. Preferably a Vox AC30.

That will get you 50% there.

The other 50% is scraping the strings with a pick that has a grip.

nylon Dunplops work great.

Streets, Bad, Pride, With or Without u, Still havn't Found, All I Want is You, and many other songs can be play acurately on this setup by changing only the delay time.

I'd make it 4 - 5 repeats for Streets.

And you can get Herdim picks at a bunch of places online. Edge has custom Herdim-like picks these days, but he used the Herdims for years.

Turn those around "backwards" and the bumpy grips will catch on the strings. That coupled with a Vox amp will give you the unmistakable Edge "chime."

Interesting subject

Anybody noticed that he has 4 TC2290's during Elevation tour and also Vertigo tour??

Its quite common knowledge that these are labelled into 2 pairs A and B hence one is used on his main signal path and one presumably on a seperate path but why 2 on each path??

Well most people say the other two are spares for backup however during the Vertigo tour each time a TC is used and changed preset via MIDI the corresponding TC below it also changes.

OK this could mean that the backup TC (or slave TC as I call it) is ready and setup via MIDI to change to the corresponding presets for backup however... if they were backup TC then surely the preset would be identical to the master TC???

Well they are not and something cunning is going on.........

Take Streets - the setting I have seen from a bootleg DVD (and also verified by spotters on the U2 forums is:

TC (3rd one down) Streets... his settings on this TC are

18 (Feedback), 90 (output), 53 (mod) Delay 365

hence in short:

18, 90, 53, 365

Now the TC below which changes every time the above TC changes has the following settings:

0, 90. 54, 365

Strange eh??

This seems to happen on all songs - the "slave" TC normally has a feedback of 0 and the mod section may be slighty increased.

Its like he is using two delays one with slight slapback echo after the main delay.

OK - your probably skeptical about this - check out this pic of one set of TCs and his settings

I can assure you each pair of TCs always change and the slave TC always has a 0 feedback and sometimes (not always the mod is diff but the dealy times are the same)

The guy who pointed this out to me ages ago at the start of the Vertigo tour has 2 TC's and has tried a lot of these settings by placing two TCs in series - he claims this adds more of a dimension to the sound on things like Streets and more authentic!! Sadly he no longer posts

Would love to try it but I only got one TC2290 lol

Thats the Elevation rig dude

Vertigo tour the "backups" change with the master and have similar setting but o feedback and slightly diff modulation - they seem to be perfect for giving the first delay a more dimensional sound

Dude, I know.

His skyrdstrup switcher only has two 2290s on it, A and B, which supports your theory.

I still think the reason he has two of everything is so he can mic one set and send the other side direct to the soundboard.

Mr Sage,

Thanks for the tip on using my dd-20, for setting for further repeats. Played it with the band the other night. Went over real well. In case anybody's interested in the dd-20 setting for streets;

Mod setting. Rate 25 Depth 70 time 365 ms. Level all the way tone 12:00 and feedback 11:00 (4-5 repeats). Sounds tremendous. What really helped was the clips that have no delay. I was playing this way to fast before.

This setting also sounds great for All because of you, and some other U2 stuff.
