Members mrweems
Right now its Les paul to Fzz fac, wah, dl4, phase 90, tu-2 to a Marshall JCM 2000 dsl100 You can listen to my bands stuff on my page in my sig. if you want. Just poppy SP style heavy.. BUt part of me is not happy with it at all.. Id like to have a jazz master into same effects with an analog delay, and my soon to be here trem.. But i dont know what amp, SOmething fender probably.. Something naturally crunchy... iono.. just my thoughts of the day.. So basically i'm freaking out.. And i dont know what to do.. Ha, Maybe a VOX and a JAzz MASTER! I think that would settle it.. I've been gear searching for the past like.. 12 hours.. this is horrible.. But right now i just hate my guitar tone.. i don't even want to think about turning any of my {censored} on.. Even if it is "decent gear" i'm not happy with it.. Members gr8fuldodd
it sounds like your having a sea change w/ your tone tastes I'm hearing a yearning for a more indie type sound (pardon the use of this somewhat meaningless term) what I tried to do when I started amassing more gear was to give myself as many choices, textures, and layers as I could b/c I can't put myself in a neat little box when it comes to style or tone so maybe you'll feel better about everything when you have a couple of more choices again I feel a second amp w/ different voicing goes a long way
Members mrweems
I agree. I just have to figure out what that second amp is.. A more organic sound is whats in my head. Fender somthing or a Vox maybe. But yes. ever since i've been listening to Sonic Youth for the past 24hrs straight, and then incubus.. Yea they both use the jazzmaster... I've been pretty keen on chaning guitar / amp completely..

Members Lanefair
I've grown tired of the Marshall Sound too, and I've got a Tele on the way. It's only a matter of time before I want a fender amp, but I'm going to give modelling a go first.
Members freeridstylee
Humm.............for the $$ you'll get for that, I'd have to say your best bet is to buy 2 hot rod deluxes, or maybe 1 hrd and one classic 30. the whole stereo thing is quite beatuiful. man I miss having 2. I used to run clean to amp a (pv vtm 60 half stack, then big muff through a ad9 mix 100% to amp b (pv classic 50). just a wall of sound. But if ur seriously gunna get fender, its time to look to some dirt boxes!!!!!!!!

Members TheAtomicJeff
Germino Lead 55. Relatively high head room until you start dimeing/boosting. Voiced somewhat like the clean channel on your Marshall. Same with Dr.Z KT-45 but not so Marshally voiced; more like a Hiwatt meets Vox.

Members killyridols
Silverface bassman should do you right. Should be able to get one for under $500.
Members CapnMarvel
The thing is, the DSL is NOT Marshall sound as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't sound anything like a Plexi, sounds far worse than a JCM800, and generally is intended to compete with BREWTAL GAINZ crap that the Amp forumites like. I'd ditch that crap and get something basic. A Bluesbreaker. A Twin. A Vox. Maybe a nice Ampeg. Don't be afraid to shop used/ebay. Become friends with a (qualified) amp tech. Join the vintage army! Then you can concentrate on getting some REALLY good pedals that'll shine through your new amp.
Members vanguard
you're adjusting to this forum so quickly! pretty soon you'll have a JM or tele into an old fender with a bunch of fuzzes in between, and you'll be bustin some guy's balls about how bad 3rd eye blind, sublime and incubus suck.... Members veil
I will get lynched for this. Put all your effects in a box and stick them under your bed. Play straight to your amp for a while. Dial in new settings. Just play, no matter how naked you feel. Do this for a week straight. If you can, play with other people. I can't stress enough how much of a difference this can make on how you feel about your gear. But really force yourself to be barebones. See where it takes you and how you feel about it. Marshalls and Teles like each other a lot more than most people know. Forget modelling. Face it you're a gear geek and the only use a gear geek has for modelling is to pick out what he should buy next. "Hmmm, I'm really liking all these tweed patches but they sound fakey and crap. I better get a low power Twin." Ron
Members vigor&kandor
what was the name of the song? I haven't seen any new incubus videos yet, their cd comes out on th 28th. never mind i found it. i Love Incubus, they are such a good tight band. Mike tone is definitely single coils with some sort of overdrive pushing his amp. His sound doesn't get to dirty in this song.

Also I can use noise reduction for the OD channel on a patch for patch basis. I want the best of all worlds. I can't afford a new amp just yet so my Tele probably will get the Marshall treatment. It may sound like I'm hijakcing this thread, but there's a lesson here, try a bit of everything...try the old with the new...
Members grayeyes777
There's a local guy here in atlanta that's building some of the best sounding amps i've heard in a while... jeff bakos. They run around 2 g's but do the vox thing and the plexi thing (suprisingly). You'd definitely need some dirt boxes to go with. Might want to try an old rat or big muff. I'd like to get one and run it with a fender twin for cleans. 404 607 8426 is his number... I don't think he has a website yet. Good luck man. Members stent
I agree that the amp is a huge part of the equation. You could try a fender blues junior, im not sure if theyre 30 or 15 watts but they use el84s and sound very nice. you can easily get that gritty yet fat sound that mike einzeningenergizer uses on the latest incubus album. theyre pretty cheap and you could easily sell it on if it wasnt your cup of tea.
