Members cybaman
Hi. I have just replaced the battery in my Sony HR-GP5. Does anyone know how to do factory reset. My unit just shows the blank back-lit LCD on power up.
Members Chaostar316
Almost one year after, but I have an answer (I had the same problem, but I can't take the battery out): to reset the unit, power it on while holding the BYPASS and EXIT buttons pressed at the same time. The user memory is now empty, but you get to use your unit. Damn that battery design... the manual doesn't even MENTION a battery.
Members Chaostar316
By the way, to anyone who used a HR-GP5: how did you manage to change the battery? It's soldered to the PCB and I'm afraid to melt everything with the heat from the soldering gun. I read that some people changed the cell battery for a pack using AA batteries or something like that, but I prefer a cell battery. Also: anyone happens to have a firmware chip for the HR-GP5 later than 1.03E? I read that on later versions they solved the problem of the "silence" when changing from one preset to another. This is very disturbing when playing live. Thanks
Members Chaostar316
Another thing: After the battery trouble (which I in fact havent solved yet) I cannot access my user memory bank. If I try to access it, I get noise on the screen and it locks up. I have to turn it off and wait some hours, I guess that until something discharges or whatever. Any ideas? Members xeijix
I also have had the cell battery problem recently. I fixed it by soldering on a cell battery holder (www.allelectronics.com/). You do not need to melt the tabs off (in fact it's impossible to melt them because its not soldered on, but spot welded). Anyways, what I did was take a small needle nose plier and pinched the the exposed tab on top and curled it around the plier in order to rip it off the button cell without damaging the tab's point of contact on the pcb board. For the bottom tab, I simply took hold of the button cell and lifted it up from one edge, away from the tab's point of contact. As for soldering the battery holder, i used wires to link from the holder to the tabs, that way one doesn't have to bother trying to make the holder fit on the board. (note: you need to perform the reset function after installing a new button cell) As for the design of the board, I don't understand why Sony didn't use a rechargeable button cell that recharges when the unit is on and depletes when it's off.
