Not sure yet. It'll be a while before I get a chance to test them fully, but theyre in the absolute PERFECT hfe range for a Big Muff style circuit. Also should be good for LPB clones, or even high gain silicon Fuzz Faces. I also have a few designs of my own that these might be cool in.

Some people there on 35-45 posts a day, can't be good for you.

I've been on vacation, so I'm online a bit more. :)

That being said, I've been out quite a bit so far today !

P.S. Its pretty easy to rack up posts quickly if you get into a "conversation" with someone in a thread.

Cool shots. I have to get some pics of my collection. I have the groovy ones I use (bunches of 2N404s and the like) and the collector ones (TA-153, WE 4B and 4C, those GE ones and a bunch of 2 digit 2N transistors).

has some of mine (the opto devices I know are from me), and otherwise is a great source of information.

Those little GT309's (the "flying saucer" looking Russian ones) are really cool. You might want to look into those for some of your projects, if you dont already have them !

404's are cool, and easy to find. I don't know why more people don't talk about them. Sure, there are lots of unusable and leaky ones, but they were so plentiful that you can still get them cheap and just test them out.

Another couple "better known" ones that I'm a fan of is the AC187 (NPN germ) and AC188 (PNP germ). Great tone, really useful, and lots of good ones out there.

Then again, I'm sure you were already aware of all that, so I'm not sure why I bothered mentioning it ! :D

oh well,

OH...BTW...I recently picked up the 1965 Sams Transistor Substitution Handbook. Lots of data on obsolete transistors. If you'd like to take a look at it, I could mail it to you as a "loaner" for a couple of weeks.

I might have that manual.

I have the 2nd edition GE transistor manual goes all the way up to the 2N434. I am a hamfester and so have picked up a lot of these old manuals and transistors dirt cheap. I have tons of unmarked Germaniums that were made up in Pennsylvania a long time back. Looks like they didn't take the ink well and were just junked. No one cared (or really cares) for the germanium transistors in that set, so you can still find some killer deals. Gotta love the old transistors.

I love hamfests :D I go with my dad every year (its kind of an old tradition for us) to the Dayton Hamfest.

The 1965 Sams has 2N34 THRU 2N3552, 2SA12-SD134, 3N45-3TX004, and so on, all the way thru Ac's, OC, etc, etc...plus it lists diodes.

Thats because you build bunches of pedals for a "living" (which you do quite well, i might add). Me, I just build a few things here and there "for fun", so obsolete components are fine for me.

Since it was mentioned in passing...has anybody actually bought any of those germanium transistors on ebay being sold from "The Russian Federation"...It is something like 50 of them for under 5$. I'm so tempted, but I know you get what you pay for sometimes. Are these a good deal or just junk?

WORST CASE SCENARIO...USE THEM AS GERMANIUM DIODES :D
