Members erksin
Went for the early 7am-10am sale to pick up a Dano Fab Distortion for my 11-y/o nephew who just picked up the guitar. When I asked for the pedal, the 'sales clerk' says "Why?". I reply that it's a gift for a newb. He says '"Well, there are a LOT better choices out there". I come back with - "I know what I want Yngwie - just sell me the damn pedal...". I could not believe how the staff were talking to the customers in there - most of them were parents with wish lists from their kids. They were totally condescending and downright rude. I had planned on doing a little shopping for myself while I was in there, but I wasn't going to reward that type of 'service' with any more of my money. Besides - they didn't have {censored} anyway...
Members therhodeo
Last time I was there I pissed off the manager. Everytime one of the stupid Green Day-playing employees would try and "explain" something to me I would go into detail about how they were wrong. Finally one went and got the manager. They were trying to explain to me how anything under 50 watts is nowhere enough power for a gig. You're trying to move more air they said. So I popped off no amplifier in the world could move enough air to match the hot air you guys blow in here.

Members ZeppelinPie792
I never really buy anything in GC because I don't have the money. The few things I buy are like picks and stuff so I don't have any troubles. I did buy a mitchell 12 string acoustic, and the guy was really cool about it. I was looking for an epiphone 12 string, but he said he didn't have it and helped me to look for a 12 string $200 and under. One time, though, there was a sale. I was gonna get my ts-9 , and I was like 3-5 bucks short when I rung it up. I asked him if I could just get a discount, and he said he couldn't, so I had to go get a few bucks from my drummer and pay him back later. I basically don't know more than the employees in GC since I just started playing 2 years ago, but I bet I know as much as them. But I don't really go there to buy stuff, I'm the person that goes in there just to try everything out and see the difference in everything. Like I said, I have been playing for 2 years, I own 3 guitars that are all under $500, 2 SS amps, and 2 pedals that I actually use.

Thats why they'll always try to sell you the most expensive item they can, because they'll make more money off of you. I remember one time I went to buy some D'addario phospor bronze strings, and they guy was really pushing for me to buy the $11 exlir set.
Members Armoredfist316
One of the last times i went in there they were dicks so i got them back. There was a PRS SE that played awsome in a flat black finish with tremolo and it played and sounded great. They made it a package deal by throwing in an old SKB case that they had in the back that was a POS. So i opened their credit card and bought it and then i took it back on the 29th day You could tell that everyone was really pissed off and it felt great:D

B'ton. They never have anythng in there that I'm even remotely interested in. I went in there for some George L's plugs a few months ago and nobody even had clue as to what I was asking for. Members therhodeo
I normally only go there to buy Ultex picks so I dont have to order them. Last time I was there I said i need 2 packages of 1.14 Dunlop Ultex picks. I wish you could have seen the confusion on this guys face. He says "we dont carry those". So I counter with "yes you do they're right there on the shelf". "No no those are tortex." "Humor me and read the label." His tone completely changes to defensive " they must be new product we just got in". "They were here last month when I bought them".

I would agree with everything except the "that can sell" part. Really, they hire anyone who will put up with the GC {censored}. The guys who can sell stuff, they make managers. Members erksin
If I worked there, I'd clean up with the parents buying stuff for their kids - which accounts for a substantial part of their business. The way these jerks were talking to the parents was astounding. There's just no way I could stomach that {censored} though - there was some wanker busting out the intro to 'For Those About To Rock' at 8:15am on a pointy BC Rich POS into a Beringer amp. It almost killed music for me...
Members therhodeo
No guitar center I've ever been in has had what I would call salesmen. To me they're just full of punk kids who think its cool to work there and also think its not "rock" to be nice to customers. Its like they have this rockstar mentallity. I mean seriously get over it. You work at Guitar Center. This post is not meant in anyway to offend Guitar Center employees. I'm sure they have good ones. I just havent met one yet. "it give you a clearer signal" sure it does bro i just i left after that
Members Valtyr
I haven't had any problems with the staff at the local GC. The customers are an entirely different matter though.

Members JakeRob
Yeah I was in GC the other day and, aside from playing guitar, I also play a little drums. I was talking to drums "salesmen" and he was the most arrogant man I have ever met. He was talking about how "at any given time he could have 1 to 3 snares on his kit''. He was just really a jerk. It was my first guitar center too and I was really excited about it, but he ruined it for me. Although the guitar guy let me crank an AC30 so that was pretty cool. Members fusionid
Ive seen many GC's. You guys have to try the one at hollywood. That place is cool. The sales people didnt know much either but whatever. They were nice. I think they sell lots of money everyday there cuz of location.
Members daver
the hollywoor one is pretty cool, lots of killer gear in the vintage room but the snobs only let one person play in the vintage room at a time...weak! still cool to look at though
Members godard
The best employee I ever dealt with there was talking to me about amps and I told him that I didn't like anything they had there (Basically new Fender, new Marshall, and Nu-Metal) and he said yeah the amps kinda suck and that he had an Orange he bought from another music place in town. One time I was in there playing a Gretsch (probably a Duo Jet I wanted to check out) and the guy tried to get me to get a PRS, I swear he looked like someone took a dump on the floor when I told him I didn't like them. The worst, this guy who had a name tag that said Dave or something but told me to call him Skeeter, and told me if I took the G&L I was playing and "like put it in a room with ten other guitars it would totally kill them bro, and would totally rip". {censored}er ruined the guitar for me, and nearly ruined G&L's in general (I only recently fixed this with my ASAT). Members godard
And on erksin's point, when I went in to try and get an Ibanez DE7 they did the same thing, first asking me why and looking at me like I sucked, and then trying to sell me a Line6 that cost 3 times as much but "was totally way better". Thanks asshat, I'm glad you know what I want better than me and would feel personally outraged if I bought an inferior product... Sorry, but this thread is theraputic for me. Members workinclasszero
I love how dickweeds who are just there to be warm bodies pull cheesy {censored} like "I'll take a dollar off both sets of strings if you by two packs" after I've told them that I worked at GC for over a YEAR. I've told a few guys to back the {censored} off in the last few months because it's downright insulting. But I stick to the few people there who are honest, hard working, good human beings. And I still get to see cool {censored} like this, which I saw this afternoon.
