is it because you can get a japanese spec fender that rivals american made quality, or that you can get an american made fender cheaper from their conversion rate than by buying it here?

inquiring minds want to know...

and does anyone know where any great deals on the ishibashi site is? a friend is thinking about purchasing one, but wants to know the highest spec for the cheapest price...

It's also because you can get some guitars that aren't available in America, at least not readily available or brand new. Also, some special/unique models/finishes that aren't available in America at all.

like which ones?

not just that awful yellow/grey fade finish?

"not just that awful yellow/grey fade finish?"

Antigua? (Yeah, it's pretty ugly)

Those Jaguar HHs are only offered in Black when ordered from an american shop, as far as I know, but there's plenty of other colors from Japanese shops. I do believe that's the case for certain Teles and Strats, but I can't back that up at the moment.

there's a couple of different ways into the Ishibashi site - this one seems like it's more americanized and the prices are higher

I've never ordered from them, but Ive heard that they are really good at communicating with the International buyers about questions and such.

That said alot of the CIJ Fender stuff in the $500 and up range, are definantly up to snuff with the MIA fender stuff. Keep in mind though that almost all the CIJ fender stuff is 7.25 radius with vintage frets.

Anyway, If your in Japan alot like me, its kinda hard to swallow the shipping price, but there are a couple kick {censored} deals in thier U-BOX(used) on CIJ fenders.

ST62-74TX/BMT F/J Alder body, Fender Texas Specials custom shop color for around $430

I can vouch for this one. I bought one last year at Ikebe and it was the best feeling Strat Id ever played, so I bought it!

Then they also have this one...ST57-95LS GOLD with Lace Sensors

$515

at least for european countries the quality of the guitars are far better!! the mexican ones are okay. the japanese guiitars are always top-crafted guitars!! at least with my experience... whereas the american guitars often has some things you would still have to adjust when they arrive. but i'd say japan and american guitars equal themselves in quality.. but the price difference is enorm.. so you get the same quality for less money.

but it is worse with gibson. here the gibson that arrives are horrible. out of 5 gibson that arrives in a shop you need to re-calibrate at least 4 of them.. and not just 10 minutes.

I thought you couldn't export guitars out of Japan anymore...

Wasn't someone saying that?

Anyway, I got my MIJ Tele from Ishibashi and it's a sweet-assed axe. It's kind of funny that the color is "US Blonde" and it has Texas Special pickups in it, but they don't have a similar guitar for the US market!

from what i've read, ishibashi isn't exactly complying with it.
whether that's here or there, i don't know.

Kuh-Lasssic!

:( I'm forever linked to that fatty. My first real guitar was a Malmsteen Strat and they still pull at my heartstrings. I'd love one like in that pic as it doesn't have his signature on it.
