That's all kind of awesome. What program do you use to do the 3D? I have 3ds Max...and haven't made anything close to that yet!

I did it in 3Dmax 7. I'm a lazy modeler, i used mostly spheres, with an FFD and noise modifier. All the textures are procedural (noise, cellular) with a cool falloff look to them. Fun {censored}!

bah, come on people - i know SIX GUYS that look like that in my hometown.

it's the slightly-overweight, standard recovering emo-rocker model who's stopped writing lyrics and is now into "sound shapes."

there's a hive of them in every good sized town, and they all look exactly like that.

Cool...I have 3dsMax 7 too. I'll have to try to make some cool {censored} with it this weekend.

Only just found this thread, so i'll jump in late with some of my thoughts, sorry if i repeat points which already been mentioned.

I compose ambient/drone music (if you would to check it out, it can be found at http://www.myspace.com/garethhardwick).

The main tools of my trade are two EHX 16 Second Delays which in my experience are the best pedal based loopers for the sort of music i make, mainly because of the Feedback function. It allows you to continually overdub and add to your loops without it the sound building up into one huge mess. Some other features it also has that are very useful are control for your wet and dry signal. Saying that, i'm very interested to see what the new Boomerang pedal is going to be like - the specs are very interesting!

I regular play my music live (in fact, i'm touring Europe in April) and i generally agree that if you want to present ambient music in this context, it helps if you play at a decent volume (a la Growing, Stars of the Lid, etc), basically to prevent people talking all the way through your set. It also helps if you construct your set so that it has a beginning, middle and end rather than just drifting along as that helps hold the attention of the audience.

Anyone else here used the 2880? I'm really tempted to order one, especially since flash cards aren't terribly expensive -- from what I've read, I could use the thing in a ton of different ways.

what you play is exactly what i do. I do ambient looping stuff, but i am solo, and i play all over the place. I use lots of delay and loop, ad-80, de-7, rv-5, dd-6, 2 X dl4, dd-20, rc-20, rc-50. i dont really know what to suggest, but the rc's are incredible for movie clips and long song loops. Also for interludes and stuff while tuning. I love it.

I wrote a sorta-review about the 2880, here:

If that doesnt answer your questions, shoot!

This is great man, thanks. I've been out of the music-making loop for a while, and was going to just save up and get a computer based setup, but this would be ideal for doing more live stuff. I could feasibly even use it as a sampler with different flash cards.
