My pedal board design - Suggestions?

I drew up the design of my pedalboard, before I build it, so I can get all the problems out.

I'm not sure if you can see on the screen, but I thought I'd have slats, like the Pedaltrain, and raised platforms.

The Pedal Powers are screened back because they will be inside the board, so I've got space for a few more modulation effects on the top row.

I was wondering a few things, opinion-wise:

1. Do you guys think 18" x 36" is too big for a board?

2.Have you ever seen a board with three rows of pedals? Does that seem like a good idea?

3. Is there no point in haveing both slots and raised platforms?

4. When you wire up boards, do you go back and forth, or up and down, or ...?

5. Any suggestions for modulation and echo? I think the DMM won't last too long. I was thinking a Red Whitch Phase and an Echozar, but that would be down the road, on acounta the fact that they cost boatloads, and I don't have boatloads.

TNX for any input. :)

I've never gone about it this way, I mean having alot to put on a board from the start. I've always just added on & on.

But maybe you could stack/velcro the PP2's on top of one antoher and get the DMM on the board.

Is it angled? Does it have a lid.

These are all considerations (I sound smart eh)

I always find that I have to shift things after a rehearsal or 2, based on how easy things were to stomp when I needed them.

A third (middle) row ? I don't know, you need to think about your heel hitting the knobs on the bottom row.

Alot to think about :)

That's a pretty big board. I had a 36" x 20" 2 tier board with slats about 4 years ago and it was too big. The thing weighed 80lbs loaded with the lid.

I see you have two PP2's. Do you need both? I bet you could combine some pedals on one tap with custom daisy chains, and get it down to one PP2.

The slats work well for concealing all the cabling. If it was me, and I was pushing up to that sized board today, I would look at ditching the volume, and moving the wah off the board altogether. The varidrive and Medusa are monsters, and take up too much room, and seem to be driving the enormous girth. Also, where's your tuner?

These are just my opinions, having visited large board land and come back.

1. it's huge. i just got a 13x24-ish SKB to replace the 21x34x8 that i had because it was ridiculous.

2. yeah but it seems really impractical--esp with pedals behind a wah or vol.

3. depends.

4. jumpers or power?

5. DM-2? may not be a badidea to have a buffer at the end.

I think you could take about 10 inches of the width and still fit everything. As far as 3 rows is concerned it depends. Places on my board have 3 pedals one above the other and they work well. It all depends on how easily you can access them. I think you could easily fit most of that on a PT Pro with one PP2 mounted underneath. Ive learned that volume pedals are a waste so just get rid of that unless its essential. As far as overall size, I think 18" is really deep so I would go for less depth. I once had a 20x40 board and it was murder for size and weight. Good luck but I think you could tighten that up a lot and cut down on some of those distortion pedals. You have 8 drives and only 15 pedals. That is ridiculous.

Buffer should go at the beginning to drive all that length, not to try and recover from it.

hey gil do you use set combination's of pedals? If so you could make a few modular boards and use a multi loop looper as a controller for each board?

That seem pretty big if it were me. I would go modular rather then just one big board, but I also use my amps loop so it wouldn't be practical to have then all on one board :(

yeah i know but i figure with 14 TB pedals a buffer anywhere in the chain would be some help.

otoh, some swear by one at the end. *shrug*

The thing is, I don't play out.

It's basicly a studio board, so carrying it is'nt an issue.

If I did play out, I'd be tenpted to grab a Tim and go.

Still, It would be nice to not build an untransportable monster.

I was hoping to build it, and set it in front of my amp, and have a lot of tones on tap when I'm recording.

There are a few pedals on there I don't have yet - I've only got one PP2, and I'm looking for a Pale Green and an Emerald Green.

Unfortunately, Alex, none of my amps have loops. I would consider getting a rack mount M-one to do delay, chorus ect, if I did have a loop.

The HotCake is a buffer, and really fixes a lot of things by having it on the end.

I almost got rid of the Eternity and the HoneyBee (both had these weak ass high ends) untill I put the HotCake at the end.

It was a big Eureka moment. :)

Why a looper?

because between each of the 14 pedals you have a cable that's at least 6". that's 13 6" cables which equals 78" of cable. that's not counting the internal wires in the boxes or your cable from your guitar or to your amp. the longer the signal has to travel, the more signal loss there is.

Hmm, I've been kind of ignoring that part on my pedalboard.

I was really picky with the cabing for mystudio, but I guess I hoped to block the pedalboard part out.

I don't know why the idea of a looper bugs me. :(

I dont think ive heard you talk about anny of your pedals befoe. Do you have a board now?

It seems pretty big, but i dont think its unmanigable. Mine is 36" X 14" IIRC and its heavy but not that bad. If its just a studio board i dont think 3 rows would be bad either. I say go for it:thu:

loopers are fun!

i use it a lot if i want 2 pedals to be switched on simultaneously.

i got the Tonefactor one, which is a feedback/looper and the feedback adds some extra experimental delight!

I don't have a board now. I've been trying and swapping pedals aggresivly for about a year, and I'm begining to see some fit, so I though now was time. Plus I have a pile of 3/4 Plywood from house renovations left over, so... :)

Meby I need to try one.

It prolly won't harm anything. :)
