DynaComp

Hey, I was just wondering if the DynaComp is as apparent when paired with a Big Muff or other distortion/overdrive/fuzz pedals. Some people don't like a compressor that squashes the sound, but that's actually what I'm looking for here. I thought I read some reviews that say you hardly notice anything with distortion on though. Anyone know? Thanks in advance!

Distortion pedals by the nature of how they work squash your sound quite a bit and pretty much destroy the dynamics...for better or for worse. Basically all notes are the same volume whether you pick hard or soft. Pairing a compressor up with a distortion pedal might change the sound a small amount just due to extra circuitry, but I doubt it will compress it even further unless of course the compressor has more controls. Unfortunately, the Dynacomp only has 2 controls which will probably make getting additional compression out of it quite difficult as the level will already be essentially compressed.

not sure how gilmour runs his, but i've had plenty of fun using a comp before a muff, more for a bit of level-boosting and then a bit of squish as well. the use of the compressor isnt neccessarily apparent as such, but the way the muff reacted to it was cool.
