I'm putting together a Zvex page at www.thepedalboards.com and want to list the pedals in order of what was released first, second, third, etc. etc.

From what I can remember it's something along the lines of..

SHO

Octane

Fuzz Factory

Machine

Wooly Mammoth

etc.

etc.

... but I'm not 100% sure.

Zvex, if you're watching and want to answer, feel free to give me an email : e13info@gmail.com

From the ZVEX Forum's FAQ Thread, First ZVEX.

it was the octane. the first one i sold to john kuker of seedy underbelly studio in minneapolis. july of 1995. i established a dealer, willy's american guitars, and on december 22 of that year, my records indicate that they bought s/n 000,002, and 003 of the fuzz factory. john kuker bought s/n 001 of the fuzz factory. a guy named dr. dan boling (i think that's the spelling) bought the fuzz factory s/n 000 from willy's. he is a chiropractor here in the minneapolis area, and a guitar fanatic. david sylvian bought one of the other two from willy's. eventually, number 007 went to dan wilson of semisonic, who used it on 'closing time'. make'n music of chicago was my second dealer... records indicate that i send fuzz factory s/n 013 to them on 6/13/96. as you can see, back then, my pedal sales were spread out pretty thin... 14 fuzz factories in 6 months isn't exactly enough to live on. heh. steve albini got the second SHO ever made, july of '96. on august 5th i sold s/n 009 and 010 of the octane to willy's, and s/n 014 of the fuzz factory, and 2 SHO's. probably the third and fourth ever made, but i didn't use serial numbers after the first two units until i added the LED this year (2002), and started at s/n 001 again. some guy named nate from a band called enormous bought a super hard-on from me on 8/17/96. i made a one-of-a-kind pedal called "fuzz boy" for john kuker on 8/21/96. i never liked the sound of that pedal, but he loved it. i traded it to him for the 100 transistors i used to make all of the reverse fuzz factories... they were all lined up in a beautiful red RCA box. i loved those transistors. i hated that "fuzz boy" pedal. he still uses it.

on october 30th i shipped two fuzz factories, s/n 019 and s/n 020 to make'n music, as well as two SHO's dated 9/25 and 9/30, and they were all purchased by billy gibbons. apparently he was in the shop when the box arrived and was opened. on monday, october 4, 1996, i met billy gibbons after his show at the state theater. he ordered 6 fuzz factories, 3 octanes, and 6 SHO's, and gave me a list of people to send them to as christmas presents. he pretty much saved my business that day. i was broke and didn't know how i was going to pay rent. things were tight. make'n music immediately ordered 4 more pedals.

on 11/23 i made notes for the seek-wah. at the time, i thought it might be a ring modulator instead. on 12/6/96 i sent 2 ff's to elderly instruments, s/n 031 and s/n 032, and 2 octanes, s/n 021 and 023, and two SHO's. i continued work on the "step mod" as i called the seek-wah back then, making notes about an improved oscillator on 12/4/96. the first entry for '97 shows the heart of the machine pedal design. "this ckt is really cool- dual tripler" (from lab notebook.) shortlly after that, guitar player invited me to the namm show to be part of their "pedal round table" where i met and heard stories from people who worked early at mxr, jeorge tripps of way huge, reinhold bogner of bogner amplification, and tons of other people. that was a special time... lots of growth that year. i was able to rent a nicer place and get out of the basement.

From DIYStompboxes.com ...

years ago i released a pedal called the "Earth Saver Boost" which consisted of one component (excluding jacks and the switch). a transformer. it had no batteries, no pots, and was sealed shut with epoxy. it boosted the signal about 3 times... the auto-transformer was a custom model that filled about 1/2 of the enclosure.

i sold 3 of them. 8^)
