Members sabriel9v
I'm not really sure which Q-Tron pedal I want. The regular Q-tron, Mini, or Doctor Q. All three have gotten pretty good reviews on this site and seem to achieve the same sound. However, I specifically want to use the Q-Tron for those Grateful Dead Estimated Prophet type solos. Really jazz, but still funky solos. Which Q-Tron does this most efficiently, but at a relatively cheap price?
Members Seth Carmody
IIRC Jerry used a mutron III. The Q-tron is basically the mutron IV (or maybe mutron VI, given the vintage 1 knob mutron V) - it's designed by the guy who designed the Mutron III, only with the guitar in mind. The Micro Qtron (don't get a mini one, the micro is the same and it's much smaller) will get you in the ballpark in terms of sound, but there's far less options and it probably doesn't sound as good. Don't even bother with the Dr Q. If you can afford $150, go for the Qtron (or even the Qtron+ for $170). Otherwise the Micro Qtron.
Members sabriel9v
Thanks man. I'll more than likely get the Micro Q cause it's cheaper and I'll use the pedal more as an accessory as opposed to an essential part of my sound.
