UPS Shipping ?

I've got alot of stuff to ship this coming week (Holiday gifts and eBay items).

And alot of it is in big boxes.

So I'm going to use UPS instead of USPS I use normally.

I was wondering if they make you "wrap" the box, like in brown paper wrapping or anything?

Or will I be able to just send out some various boxes I have laying around here.

I could have sworn I got a UPS package once is a USPS Priority Mail box!

Side note - Do you need to label the packge or do they do all that at the UPS location?

FedEx puts on their own shipping label (you actually fill it out) with tracking info on package. For safety, I also always write actual address directly on box. I never "wrap" box in paper. I know UPS and USPS discourage your writing info on wrapping paper that is put over a box. The paper can be ripped off or get caught in machinery, etc.

I know FedEx doesn't care if you use boxes with USPS labeling on them, but USPS does not allow reuse of certain of their own boxes. For instance, if your box says "Priority Mail" and you are sending it via a different level of shipment, they will make you repack.

I pretty much use FedEx. I like the tracking and price is decent.

This looks like a good place to rant about UPS. You had better package your items like they will be in a bomb test because they WILL smash your package after they take your money for insurance. They will NOT pay you for your damaged item, even though you threw away your money on the aforementioned insurance. Just my experience. Three times.

When you sign up with an account, do they do free pickup?

No problem, Nerve. I am Chump, but not A Chump. :)

AFAIK, they'll do pickups for Express service, but not for Fedex Ground.

edit: If you work in a building that has a regularly scheduled Fedex pickup/dropoff, just take your packages in to work. The pickup adress on the label doesn't have to be your billing address. You can save a lot of time this way.
