Members Last Nerve
I've got alot of stuff to ship this coming week (Holiday gifts and eBay items). And alot of it is in big boxes. So I'm going to use UPS instead of USPS I use normally.I was wondering if they make you "wrap" the box, like in brown paper wrapping or anything?Or will I be able to just send out some various boxes I have laying around here.I could have sworn I got a UPS package once is a USPS Priority Mail box! Side note - Do you need to label the packge or do they do all that at the UPS location?
Members Gearhunter
They will make you unwrap it if bring it in wrapped. They said it jams up in they're roller conveyers.I'd check out Fedex if one is handy.UPS's rates have been sucking lately. Members Last Nerve
Thanks, GH!Any idea if FedEx would make me wrap the boxes, and/or put on shipping labels?
Members Gearhunter
Nah,they don't make you wrap it,and their computer prints the labels for you. They don't accept cash though,I learned that the hard way when I went with out my debit card.Had to run to a nearby post office to get a money order for Fedex. Members wednesdaysworse
FedEx puts on their own shipping label (you actually fill it out) with tracking info on package. For safety, I also always write actual address directly on box. I never "wrap" box in paper. I know UPS and USPS discourage your writing info on wrapping paper that is put over a box. The paper can be ripped off or get caught in machinery, etc.I know FedEx doesn't care if you use boxes with USPS labeling on them, but USPS does not allow reuse of certain of their own boxes. For instance, if your box says "Priority Mail" and you are sending it via a different level of shipment, they will make you repack.I pretty much use FedEx. I like the tracking and price is decent. Members theweight
Yeah, I think the cash thing might just be specific to one particular store. I've never had that problem.
Members chump5150
Sign up for a fedex account. It's real easy, and shipping with an account # is slightly cheaper than paying the standard published rate. If you have a lot of stuff to ship, it adds up fast. Members Last Nerve
thanks, chump...I mean..no disrespect, that IS your name! When you sign up with an account, do they do free pickup?
Members jb1911
This looks like a good place to rant about UPS. You had better package your items like they will be in a bomb test because they WILL smash your package after they take your money for insurance. They will NOT pay you for your damaged item, even though you threw away your money on the aforementioned insurance. Just my experience. Three times. AFAIK, they'll do pickups for Express service, but not for Fedex Ground. edit: If you work in a building that has a regularly scheduled Fedex pickup/dropoff, just take your packages in to work. The pickup adress on the label doesn't have to be your billing address. You can save a lot of time this way.
Members KjStrat62
Seriously go USPS and send the larger boxes Parcel post!!Should be just about as quick as the other shippers this time of the year
Members sense_of_henry
As an added bonus, you can give you friends and family UPS' steep brokerage fees in addition to their gifts!!
