When I was 8 years old ... 1980 I remember one of the first stand alone Space Invaders machines ... a family friend had it in black and white and it was one of those massive wardrobe sized arcade giants!

I must have played the {censored} out of that thing ... I also recall PONG! ... great stuff.

This was THE arcade game. The original machine from the mini golf place down the street died recently...RIP.

I had a big hand in wearing that one out.

Gotta love the kitch artwork on those old bangers.

The 80's...when fun didn't require phone book sized manual.:freak:

Its funny because games were stupid simple, then by the late 90's they were shipping with novels as manuals, and now its sliding back towards stupid simple with just a pamphlet worth of instructions. :(

I love the classics, but I'm going to miss the ridiculously complex games as well.

We had an Atari also, and some strange beast the games were loaded with tapes. Then we had a Saga Master System version 1 - that was cool. Followed to a Mega Drive 1 and finally for me a Playstation.

I was fresh into guitar at that point and I've not owned a console since. :)

Man... I had Pong... and a Radio Shack TRS-80, ooh.. and a Commodore Vic 20.. that thing ran off of tapes...

My dad worked for Sperry-Univac (Unisys) when I was young... he would bring home 12 inch floppys... badass toys when you're 4:D

Well thats just archaic.

I started out on DOS, and I kinda miss it sometimes. Except when I think back to trying to squeeze enough EMS and conventional memory out of the system by tweaking the autoexec.bat and config.sys files for hours just to get a game running, and just about every game had different memory requirements. Luckily those were some of the best games ever made back then so it was well worth it. :thu:

all my dexerity is used on playing guitar. badly:)

I started on NES, and then merged over to SNES/Genesis. (I had both, yeah.) But that was the line for me. Once they started releasing the PS1's and the N64's the games got too complicated for me. Not because of the buttons, but because free roaming gameplay just loses me. :freak:

The Wii and Nintendo DS have pulled me right back into things, though....
