Tap tempo on stomp box delays?

How does tap tempo on stomp box delay pedals work? Like with modelers and such, not only do you set the tempo by tapping, but you also first set a note value. So, the tempo of the delay can vary greatly by the selected note values.

How does this work on stomp boxes? Are you stuck with basically one default tempo when using tap tempo that can't be changed? What is the default note value? Can you adjust the speed or whatever of the delay within the parameters of the tapped tempo at all?

Does this make sense?

I'm referring to the Boss DD-6 and the Digitech Delay in particular. I'm not aware of any other tap tempo capable delays in the $150 and under price range.

On my Diamond Memory Lane, the speed at which you tap the tempo switch is the speed the delays will be set at - IOW, tap the tempo button rapidly and you get short delays, tap it slower and you get longer delays. The amount of decay / regeneration is set seperately, via a knob, and is unaffected by the tap tempo button / delay time. Most tap tempo features on delay units function in a similar manner.

usually it's a 1:1 ratio. the tempo is the time between the first and second tap. ones that don't work like that exclusively are the DD-20 and DL4, both of which have the capability to apply another value (triplet, 8th note, etc) to the rhythm you've tapped.
