Members MegaTom
Howdy ya'll. Until just recently, I've been fairly content with just the two channels on my Fender Twin amp, but now I am looking for something to put in front of my clean channel with a bit more... balls(?)... than my built-in channel 2 OD. The sound I'm looking for should be balls-ey, yet smooth and warm. Not nu-metal noise! I'm kinda leaning towards a tube driven distortion, but I'm not dead set on going that way. I guess you can say that the music I play most resembles 90's anterna-rock/pop and electronic/industrial-ish noise (think Cure, Pumpkins, NIN and Depeche Mode). So, what would you recommend and why? Members lostandfoundpdx
i would reccomend two pedals that are commonly available and very affordable: proco rat2- this is a classic. everyone uses them in a variety of different ways, from overdrive to straight up metal wallop. they sound great. period. they are also true bypass, so it won't {censored} up your sound when it's not on. EHX little big muff- again, my new fav distortion box, well at the moment anyway. this is a new design by electro harmonix, and it sounds awesome. very tight clear distortion, with all kinds of tones on tap. very responsive controls. also true bypass. you are gonna get a million responses, but i would say these two based on affordability, ease of use, and variety of tones available. Members MegaTom
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll look that up. I also forgot to mention that I mainly play a Guild Starfire archtop (semi-hollow) guitar with DeArmond Goldtone humbuckers and a Gretsch Duo Jet. Members SpectralJulian
I haven't tried it- but the MXR Distortion + looks sexy. +1 on the Little Big Muff.
Members lostandfoundpdx
my reccomendations stand with any amp/guitar setup. i think both of these pedals are very versatile. and cheap. and sound awesome as both overdrives and distortion boxes.
