Members SpectralJulian
Which one do you like and why? I've been hemming and hawing over what to get myself with my extra christmas money. I know the MXR flanger is all over WIRE stuff, and I'm a big WIRE fan. There are a few things I've been looking at- but none of them have given me much GAS at all. I know I'm getting a Polyphase, which is the main thing I'm gassing for. The MXR Flanger sounds cool. What do you think?
Members MrMunky
It's a solid flanger, but it kind of has a single distinctive feel to it that its pretty prominent and can get old easily if overused. Van Halen's unchained is the paradigmatic recording of the MXR flanger, and I think it captures the basic sound pretty well when used with distortion. This is one of the rare pedals where there's not much difference between the variations. I've owned the vintage and the reissue, and they're not really distinguishable. I haven't heard the special EVH flanger, but it holds itself out as being the same, except for the paint and the addition of a button activated "Unchained" preset. Members Fast Frets
I've got one of the old grey ones with four knobs and the AC cord for power. I like it a lot ecause it sounds great and has a vintage vibe to it. I don't have any plans to get rid of it--it's a keeper. :) :)
Members mark7171
definitely the original great non stereo flanger. they all use the same panasonic bucket brigade chip. im a long time fan of MXR. awesome flanging from that particular unit. out of the BF-3 BOSS, FL-3 guyatone, FL-9 ibanez, digitech, and DOD. the EV-117 IMO is at the top of the hill. My guess would be you'd get more use out of a Magicstomp and you'd still have a few dollars to kick around.
Members SpectralJulian
Someone on pittsburgh craigslist is selling a magic stomp for 50 bucks. I was thinking about getting it, but I don't like editing patches and stuff. I'm a knob tweaker.

Members MrMunky
The Magicstomp, I suspect, doesn't satisfy the knob twiddling types too well. However, for 50 bucks you can probably be confident that you can spin it for more down the road, and, at the very least, it should allow you to toy with some different kinds of effects and see what kind of sounds fit in with your style. Members SpectralJulian
Well, I'd then have 80 dollars, and there is nothing I want in that range, so I'd end up spending it on crap.
