Is a Open/Halfopen cab recommended for Vox-type amps ?

Yeah, in general it seems to sound better to me. Although, I like the ef86 channel into a closed back cab with G12H speakers. But all the magic seems to be with alnico blue type speakers in open or semi open back configuration. Especially with the top boost channel.

Have you tried the hayseed through any of your 4x12's yet? I'll bet that would be sweet. Maybe put a mix of ceramic weber blue and silver dogs in a 4x12? Just because traditional vox tones are alnico and open back doesn't mean that ceramics in closed backs wouldn't kill. Especially in a 4x12. After all, vox does currently make a 4x12.

I'm sure it's birch ply. Maybe go to plexi-palace.com and ask about the recent vox cabs. They have a good vox forum there.

I'm half considering getting a celestion blue and mixing it with the weber 30 watt blue I already have in my 2x12 (Kingsley 13 ply birch). I think they'd mix nicely. The weber is a bit warmer and the celestion would be a bit chimier (and louder).

Have you tried an a/b switch between the channels yet? I've listed my current rig below, and I love having separate inputs for each channel. Bloody handy.

That should be nice. The heritage G12H might be a bit bright though, just a warning. If you find it is and you want something warm to mix with the Celestion Gold, maybe a Weber silver ceramic will fit the bill. Either way, break them in before you really decide.

I have run my AC-50 with a Marshall 4x12" and it is amazing. Crunch galore, and sounds great. The early AC-30s had open backs because you would put your amp at the front of the stage and you were behind it. So to hear, open back. From the back the knobs make sense.

Nope, never tried it. Yeah, they've got the 55 hz cone so will be deeper and warmer but I believe they still have quite a bit of treble up top like the other G12H's. I may be wrong, I think that's what they say over at gearpage.

i think the heritage g12h sounds excellent once they have broken in, which should be easy to do.

I just checked gearpage. A few of those rich dudes are into the Gold and Heritage G12H pairing. ;)

Good call on getting the vox. I like the two handles on top for carrying. :)
