Why does the clone theory have to be noisy?

I finally got this pedal and it sounds great but there is this background hiss that is just terrible. No chance of using it with gain and it is yet to be determined whether the clean will sound bad at volume. On clean at conversation levels its not terrible but definitly there. Looks like I might have to get a Maxon CS9 or something for my gig board :( Ill have to give it a test run at rehearsal tomorrow.

The thing is, its all SMD so I couldn't even get lower noise parts and give that a shot.

Man that sucks, but I think thats just the nature of that effect. I know the vintage ones were noisy, and the Polychorus along with dirt is really only good for making noise IMHO. Clean it sounds excellent though, and it sounds like the CT RI is in the same boat. :(

may have to get a small clone i guess, but i wanted that bit more tweakability, any other similar chorus'??

Maybe the Polychorus? Maybe the newest versions aren't as noisy? Also might be a bit overkill if you just want Small Clone sounds with a little extra versatility.

I guess you could also go boutique and try the Analogman Clone Chorus, I've heard nothing but good things about his chorus pedals.

I saw that, this pedal sounds good but that one problem might ruin it. Ill report back tomorrow after practice to see if it was a problem during a song. The other guitarist has one and it doesn't seem that bad but I pay more attention to my own sound when we play.

that i ssad to hear.
I was wanting to pick one up secondhand.
Where are you guys seeing the nano and XO series pedals in actual stores? I went up to Guitar Center this past Sunday and they said they were special order only. I am mostly interested in the Polyphase, as I am a phaser freak, but that is a lot of cash to pony up for somethign unheard and unseen.

Now as for the chorus, traded for one of these gems that same sunday:

I've been to 3 GCs recently, and none of them have had the new pedals...only a couple of the mom and pop stores have them around here.

I was guessing it's because perhaps they want to sell a buncha the old ones first to get 'em outta the way.

Does anyone know if they are gonna be keeping both sizes? You know, like a regular Small Stone and Nano?

OK - I just played my CTRI for several hours at band practice last night. Limited use clean but a lot of use dirty and I have realized why some people find it noisy and others find it fine. The key is where it is. When I just plugged it into the front of my rectifier to check it out at home it was noisy - thaqts because I was amplifying a chorused signal through several gain stages, even on the clean channel. This means the hiss that was there was significantly amplified in the preamp. When I play in a band context all my modulation is in the loop of a rectifier. That way, Im chorusing an amplified signal which means you get 96% lush swirl and 4% hiss which is really no worse that most overdrive pedals hittign a front end hard.

The sound of this pedal is way cool. Its much thicker than my CE5 which I had been using on the band board before. I think the delay times are a little shorter or somegthing because it almost sounds like a flange with high gain and when it peaks at the top there is this wonderful little plop in the sound that sounds amazing. If you want a chorus that will cut through gain and make a sort of wash of swirl on big chords but not sound like the full swoosh of a flange this is it. Just dont use it in front of your amp. The setting I was using was Chorus 2/Depth 3:00/ Speed 9:00

The Flanger Hoax is the same. When I first plugged it in I had the FAT switch pressed in on the BJr, which amplified the noise tenfold.
