ok. i need a barnburner.. I will be using this with 2 old tube amps that run very clean til cranked, and i cant always be loud. so high gain is in order.

also, im trying to stay away from tubescreamer variants.

its easy as crap to get a good lead sound with what I have, im looking for snarling midrangey rhythm tones.

think Page, JB Hutto, Jack White (awesome tone) Black Keys, Hound dog Taylor, a smidge of Niel Young, and a morsel of Fogarty...

guitars used will be predominantly under-powered single coils, although I am planning on adding something with P90s real soon...

clark gainster

SCOD

TBIAC

pigtronix OFO

Jacques fuse blower

Im basing these choices on clips Ive found, welcome to more suggestions, but thatll probably just lead to more questions and GAS fumes.

help.

yeah i really WOULD like a screwdriver the more i think about it. damn that supply and demand factor.

i must say, im not trying to emulate the artists i mentioned, those are just general examples of what im playing/going for discussions sake.
and so far neil youngs tone has been the hardest to cop with my low wattage gear. his tone on the "dead man" soundtrack is incredible. mostly slide, and probably through a smaller amp, like a champ. im guessing.

What amps? Single-coils + Fenders + Tube Screamers = usually good things.

I'd wait on the Fuseblower - very flexible with lots of great tones available, but the learning curve is steep (lotsa knobs = lotsa interactivity) and all that flexibility means lotsa crappy tones available too until you figure it out.

Gainster'll do you a righteous tweed tone. Might also look at the Subdecay Liquid Sunshine, which also gives good vintagey low-to-mid gain raunch and snarl.

You might consider a Fuzz Face type fuzz as well. The HWA Fuzzwork Orange would actually do pretty well for you - cleans up nicely and can do the mild-overdrive blues thing as well as some rippin' amp-melting radio-pickin'-up fuzzzz frenzy. Not many out there these days, but something along those lines. Euthymia Crucible?

Durham Crazy Horse might also be just the ticket - similar range of almost-clean to very-very-mean, but again, a learning curve.

It's my computer:D

The amp is the "Brit Clean" model in Garage Band by Macintosh.

Some other great pedals would be the Barber Small Fy Burn Unit, or Barber Direct Drive. MI Audio Tube Zone can do a ton of good things. Fuzz is a great way to go too, I also have the Crucible Fuzz by Euthymia, I can't say enough good things about that pedal:)

You can't forget to mention that HMCMedic is a flat out badass on guitar and could probably smoke most people around with an SD-1 and a Microcube. :thu:

+1 for the Barber. Really great sounding OD for a great price. It really impressed me.
