can you use a compressor to overdrive an amp?

well the Maxon is analog but not cheap.

i've not played one but a lot trustworthy people around here recommend the DOD Milkbox.

 

i can sell you my MIJ Arion Stereo Compressor for cheap. it's great and versatile, just somehat noisy for my needs because i play lots of quiet stuff.

most compressors have a level or volume knob but many compressors tend to have the opposite effect of overdriving an amp. they can help add more headroom. or let you get louder without overdrive. at least that is my experience. as others have said, i would go with a cheap overdrive. arion tubulator or boss sd-1 if you are looking to push your amp and get more drive/sustain.
