I actually know Rusty. He's an amazing guitar player. He used to work at the local music shop I frequent. He's doing a blues thing now with his wife, but he used to play metallic instrumental stuff with a drum machine that sounded like Vai meets Slayer.

Metal, huh? I didn't know that.... I only know about the blues stuff... heh... I'll have to tease him a little about that... :)

He's actually done a lot of stuff, but that was one of his projects. I think it was called Splattergun. He was doing the radio metal thing for awhile in the late 90s with a band called Fade. They were similar to Clutch, but much heavier. He's one of the best guitarists I've ever seen. He's an easy target, though. We always called him a closet soundman because of the awful clothes he wore (sweatpants and fanny packs with sunglasses, even at night). He's sort of an 80s leftover as far as any fashion sense goes, or at least that's what he used to be. Anymore when I see him he's dressed to the nines and has this soul thing going on, which I guess is where the blues comes in. Sort of has this white BB King thing going on.

I'll be honest - I'm very proud of our products, but I'm also very much in favor of free speech, and that includes people making recommendations that do not include our products, such as the ones above. I firmly believe that the cream will always rise to the top, so I'm comfortable reading these alternate opinions. In fact we get at least one call a week where someone asks for a pedal that makes a particular type of sound, and we end up referring them to a competitor, rather than BS.

However, when I see a thread where someone inquires about one of our products (such as this one), and someone responds that they should save their money and buy something else, it bothers me a little - I understand that it's a personal preference issue, and that's totally cool, but suggesting that someone "save their money" and buy a competing product suggests that there is at least some similarity between the product originally inquired about and the suggested alternative.

Since the Metal Muff doesn't sound anything like the Death Rattle, I have to assume that either the suggestion is born out of ignorance, or they don't understand what the person is looking for. Speaking for myself, if I came onto HC and asked where to buy a Fuzz Factory, and someone told me to save my money and buy a tube screamer, I'd wonder why they bothered to respond. (Laugh if you want, but I have seen this EXACT exchange here in HC)

This isn't even a criticism... I'm just wondering how/why this sort of exchange happens - ignorance or confusion? Or is it something else?
