Members squareking
It all started with my '71 Traynor YBA-1A and Avatar 2x12. Bought the empty cab in mint condition from a TGPer. Great price - I was able to afford a gently used Eminence Governor and a new Wizard from Avatar. After recapping/tubing the Traynor, I hooked everything up and I was very happy with the tone - beautiful Bassmarshall tones. At higher volumes, dancing around those tones was a terrible buzzing sound, only on certain notes on certain volumes. I found out it was the Wizard. I cut a few clips and shared them with the guys @ Avatar. They totally agreed, said Em's were more likely to succumb to 'cone cry,' and sent a Celestion V30 free of charge as a replacement. I was happy again. Sent the Wiz back. Right before I did so, I decided to hock the Traynor - no college dorm dweller will ever need 90w of undistorted power...ever. Sold it and bought a Weber 18w kit. After months of waiting on backordered parts and a friend to build it for me, I hooked up my new rig. Once again, great tones at painfully loud volumes, but it was bearable. About 2-3 weeks ago -- just a few days after getting my Weber -- I began to notice the same buzzing sound coming from the new Celestion at higher volumes. I know it's the speaker - you can tell where the offending buzz is coming from. I tried isolating the head to reduce vibration (initially I thought it was a microphonic tube) and moving the cab while someone played through it. Do I just have horrendously bad luck when it comes to speakers? Is Avatar's stock just {censored}ty? I don't have a lot of money to throw around to fix these things. Part of me wants to sell the whole rig and settle on a small Fender combo. To add to all of this, the circuit design on these amps makes them incredibly boomy. So now I have to get my tech to snip and replace a few caps and make other adjustments. Guitars need setups and strings, I'm about to buy books again for next semester...and all I want is a trusty, reliable, toneful rig. Why the {censored} does this happen to me? /emo Just had to vent a little. /bitch
Members NoirAbattoir
Fresh speakers will buzz and make noise at first. I would either run a loop of a riff runnng through the amp for a day or two (throw a blanket over the amp to quiet the noise), or simply continue playing it. Once you get past 12 or so hours you shouldn't have whatever buzz/noise you are experiencing.

Members lostandfoundpdx
i have been using avatar stuff for years, pretty much as long as i've had big rigs, and their quality is perfectly reliable. i have two of dave's 212s, both loaded with different kinds of hellatones, his re-labeled celetions. Members Noise...
Nothing emo about that!A bad rig would be a bitch. I know - my old amp started messing up thanks to dirty power at my house. For about 2 months it was so bad that I basically just played my acoustic. Then, I finally just traded the amp in and got something bigger (even though I didn't need to go bigger...I just wanted to ). The new amp isn't nearly as bad as the old one with the power - even though they're both Marshall MG's. (I went from a 50w combo to a 100w halfstack). As for your speaker issue, My guess is that Avatar probably isn't taking as good care of the speakers as they should. If something like that gets tossed around, or dropped, or whatever, it won't sound right. I'd just call them on that again and see what they'll do.As for the volume issue, I don't really know what to tell you. If you can get away with keeping your amp now and making it work for you, I'd suggest you do that. Unless of course you really want another amp. And, the guitars...Why not get a book on doing setups yourself? I can't think of a better time for you to learn...Good luck with the rig problems. I'm sure you'll get them sorted out.

Members Noise...
^Yeah. Definetly do that before bitch-slapping Avatar into sending you another speaker.

Dave was so {censored}ing nice...I don't want to bother him again. I'm gonna try CSK's suggestion which I totally forgot about. As for the volume issue, I don't really know what to tell you. It sounds too good when it behaves, so it's a keeper. I really wanna hear it after a few bass-reduction mods. And, the guitars...Why not get a book on doing setups yourself? I guess the answer to this thread was "look inside yourself, grasshopper." Or everyone could send me money to buy better gear.

Members lostandfoundpdx
you guys obviously haven't done much business with dave. e is a stand up individual, its ridiculous to say he doesn't take proper care of his products. if you really think he is the problem, call him and if there is anything he can do, he will fix the situation. don't badmouth a retailer without giving him a chance to rectify your problem:thu:

Members Noise...
LostandFoundpdx, I was the one who said it may be Avatar's fault. No, I haven't dealt with them, but a lot of buisnesses DO mishandle stuff. I am not saying that's what Avatar does. For all I know, they could take better care of their stuff than most. All I was saying is that it was a possibility.Didn't mean to offend anyone and I have nothing against Avatar.

It's a bit demoralizing at first. You think you bought the wrong speakers, but most of the time you aren't really hearing what the speaker will eventually sound like. Do you have a looper? If not, just keep playing through it for the next week or two a couple hours a day. The cones will start to lose the buzz and they will begin to sound better and better. Members NoirAbattoir
I've bought my share of speakers from Avatar and they were very nice for the most part. However, the last purchase I made he didn't stand by. I bought a pair of Eminence Red Fangs and one of them arrived with a bent frame. He wouldn't let me return it for a new one.
