Best octaver/shifter for faux bass?

some octavers don't track the low notes very well;
the EHX PoG is good for this but does so much more that it would be wasted (and expensive) if that's all you want it for.

i borrowed an EBS OctaBass once which i was very impressed with. it's actually a bass pedal so is designed to track low notes.

the EH octave multiplexer is a really nice pedal. If you can find, try a pearl octave oc-07 but they are rare so it might be a bit of a mission to find one.

The chilli dog is ok in the mids but doesn' track too well in the bass notes.
The oc-2 lacks a bit of bottom end and I haven't tried the oc-3 yet.

A digitech EX-7 or Whammy does this fairly well, but you have to be careful how you play so as to avoid hitting more than one note or causing a glitch:

The HOG would be my choice. I can actually get better sounds out of it than I can out of a bass (I'm not saying that I can get better sounds out of the HOG than a real bass player could get out of a bass):

The cheapest solution is a Boss OC-2 I'd think:

if you're just using it for recording, you can get something else to play your bass, like band in a box:

In any event, I'd say you need a compressor to make whatever you decide to use work.
