Members wacopacco
i literally know nothing of this pedal. Is it a low-gain od? Is it an 'amp-in-a-box'? Any users?

Members lostandfoundpdx
the silver kiss is a mig gain od/dirt box. there's not metallica gain on tap, but plenty to drive your amp into some serious ooomph. the eqs are very responsive, and you can set them at noon to get a unity EQ, letting your amp shine through. the volume and gain controls really play off each other, to make for many combinations of boost/overdrive/distortion options. super versatile. at first i wasn't too stoked, but version 2.0 that nic just finished is pretty {censored}in sweet. Members lostandfoundpdx
yeah, well, the silver kiss is still in prototype mode, hence the cabaretlinda stamp. nic has offered for anyone with an older Sk to send it back in to him and it will get updated to new spec. a lot of people have kept their old ones despite the fact they can be updated, so who knows... either way, sweet pedal, especially at the price point. I'm in this group. I have an early one and it sounds great to me. Nic said he would post some info on the different changes that he made to later prototypes. I'm going to hold off on sending it in for an update until I know exactly what the changes were. I think some of the changes were made so the pedal would sound great with more guitar/amp combinations. Without knowing the specifics, there's a risk that updating my pedal would take away tones that I like...

I will list the things I addressed from the first few to now: -Volume doesn't have to be past 2PM for the thing to boost-Gain knob tuned for full sweep control of the rotation-Treble knob tamed -Bass knob when maxed doesn't give the perception of bass cut.-The low frequency that is distorted was edged up to eliminate muddiness. Thanks for all the feedback on this so far folks. It really has helped me refine a cool pedal. In return for all this insight as Jason said if you wanna update them just send me an email. We will do it for you for free.

When you say "treble knob tamed," how would this affect (if at all) the 3 - 4 o'clock sweet spot where the pedal "opens up" that some of us experienced? And is there less high end on tap?I might just get this free update.
Members Ben Co.
I sent mine to him today to see if the change is a good one... to me the pedal was close to being 'there', but not 100%. Still good enough to keep and use for sure! But I was intrigued by the new changes, and additionally Nicholas mentioned in an email that one of the things addressed was: "Cleaned up the fizziness and fuzziness". I will report when I get it back! Looking forward to it... I was using it the other day and it really melded with my rig nicely! -Ben

Members Ben Co.
Did you get your updated pedal yet? Opinions if you have? Yep... actually, I just got it back today! I'm lazy and tired right now, so here's a snip from an email I wrote to Last Nerve a couple hours ago re: my 1st impressions: "What I can tell so far is that: 1) The somewhat oversaturation of the signal, and the bit of fizziness is gone with this update. Still has that grinding growl and amazingly good cleanup though. The entire character of the gain is still there, just more natural and not as harsh. 2) The tone controls are much more useful and they seem to work a bit more independently although not entirely so. The bass can be pushed up even moreso, the treble has been tamed and is in a more useful sweep range (gets more rolled off and not as bright), and the mids still 'open up' the pedal or 'focus' it, but don't get quite as honky... more like it adds 'body'. The treble knob can still make it bright, but not harsh. Overall, it's a superior pedal now! Before I was running it with the treb, mid, and bass all around 3-4 o'clock to get that 'loudness' thing going on, but with the bass shy of where I wanted it because turning it up negated that effect. However, now I'm running the pedal with the treble and mid at noon and the bass at 2:30 and it sounds killer. I can't believe how good this damn box sounds. Goddamn. I'm actually going to have to rewire the board a bit and put the Box of Rock BEFORE it so I can use the boost in it to push it into higher gain ranges because I see using this pedal a LOT." -Ben
Members CicadaSilence
I got Silver Kiss #48 in the mail this afternoon. I've been playing it all day. I'm assuming #48 is late enough in the run of these pedals that it's a version 2, right? In any case, it sounds great. Warm and punchy, articulate, and great touch/volume knob sensitivity. Members Ben Co.
so what would you say this thing sounds like? Heavy saturated od? Light transparent od? Fat thick classic crunch? I think it sounds pretty transparent and runs the gamut from light and dynamic OD to heavy, saturated OD. I think it does best at medium gain rock rhythm tones, where I can still clean it up really well with touch/vol. knob useage. I'm bad at describing tone, but... let's see. Most folks are familiar with a Tube Screamer, ya? Let's start from there. Then: 1) Make it EQ neutral, 2) Make it transparent, 3) Give it a power-tube overdrive type gain working in tandem with the 'stock' gain, 4) Make it responsive to changes in pick attack and volume control, 5) Make the notes fade extremely naturally without sputtering. Oh yes, then on top of that add a really good 3-band EQ to further tailor the tone. IMO. -Ben
