For one of my two effects, I'm using a 1986 Roger Mayer Fuzz Face Classic. It gets me by the door and into the psychedelic music room nicely. Regards....Goofyfoot.

I got ALL the RM spaceships, the Voodoo-1 and the Voodoo Vibe.

The guy calling RM's fuzzes "clones"...LOL are you for real?

The BBC Jimi's worst tone? I guess thats why so many guys are gunning for it.

You'd do well to shut your piehole, you misguided uninformed braying ass.

i got the axis a long time ago and I love it- i know a few years ago there was some discussion about the schematic that was going around was wrong- but I never even bothered to open the axis up and check the layout- I have built better sounding fuzzface clones. Its mostly in the transistors and the biasing. Also the fuzz pot is even worse than any fuzzface I have ever tried, goes from no gain to saturation in the smallest increment-and that is where the sweet spot is- right as the background hiss appears but not past that point. That is where the notes will bloom. Steve Daniels at Small Bear sells a special taper pot now that I use in all my fuzzface and tonebender clones. Its the best thing to happen to my pedals since I trialed and errored almost every transistor to find the ones I like- and other than the germaniums none of them are NOS.

Hey I have a 1986 Classic as well. Is yours blue and does it have a sticker on the bottom that says "Guitar Galaxy"? Hang on to that pedal cause I also have a later Classic from the late nineties and it is rather stiff and sterile compared to the 1986; they sound completely different. My 1986 has some sort of spooky mojo. It just sounds amazing. The transistors are different in the later model and I'm thinking that whatever transistors Roger used in the 1986 version aren't to be found anymore. I have quite a few fuzz pedals but none have the mojo of the 1986 Classic.

Funny, I just posted about this at the "other forum".

I have a Roger Mayer Fuzz Face that I ordered through Guitar Galaxy magazine in the mid 80's, and out of all my other boosters or distortions it's got the meanest tone I ever heard. It is wine red in color, with two black and yellow knobs for volume and sustain. The volume control cuts out if you mess with it, so I just leave it turned all the way up and leave it at that. I have to keep it after my wah in my effects chain, if I run it the other way around all I get is a really loud squeal. I had to wait a long time to recieve it, but it was worth the wait.
