Members inscho
hmmm.... up until this weekend I had been talking to mark about the whole deal and he was really enthusiastic about everything...and he said that he and I needed to talk to John about it, because he is part owner in the store. so I talked to John on saturday about what my plan was for everything. I hung out at the shop almost all day saturday and talked with him, by the end of the day he was really into the idea as well....and started talking about sitting down sometime this week to discuss how everything would work out...he says marks the "money man" and we'd have to wait until tuesday night. well he calls me today and says that they have some session work they need to do and won't be able to do it....so he says it'll probably be next week before we can talk....sure no prob. about a hour later mark calls me to say the guitar is ready...so I head over there on my lunch break and ask him about when we would be able to meet up...and I mention how I've been building up my own inventory to bring to the shop. He talks to me almost like nothing had ever been discussed before, he was saying we could put my stuff on consignment or they could buy it off me if I'm asking a fair price. what the hell? of course I don't want do either of those...in fact I'd make more money doing everything on my own, but I was looking forward to working at my favorite local shop and us helping each other out. so now I don't know what the hell is going on, and I'm irritated. for those in the fog, this thread is regarding: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1491094
Members Bloo
hmm, that looks like the first and only sign that maybe you should go at it alone. i would not even address it to them any more, i would just let them bring up the topic. this may sound a bit selfish, but try doing what is best for you. just keep being their customer and keep letting them be your favorite shop and no harm is done. that's all i got, best of luck to ya. Members angelhair0
Sounds to me like they aren't that interested anymore and don't have the balls to tell you.
Members gorebuc
I agree. Sounds like they either have bad communication skills or they are just playing dumb instead of being forthright with you. Just remember the happy times.
Members ChitownTerror
That sucks, man. I hate it when people pull those stunts. You can always try to open an internet store, if the mortar ones are giving you a hard time.
Members wacopacco
thats how most guitar shops are imo. I was pretty much guaranteed a job there once. Talked to both owners and everything, went back a couple days later and they said, "well we have too many Matts working here...".so i ask one of the 'matts' "hey is this a newer nyc big muff?", he replies "yes it is". I ask "so it's true bypass right?". he replies "none of the ehx pedals are tb". (this was 1 year ago)i'm much more content with buying gear than selling it thats for sure. Members inscho
the guys are nice, but pretty naive business-wise...I'll probably sit down and talk to them next week....and give them an ultimatum of sorts.
Members waveman
Yeah, this stuff probably comes up alot...they probably didn't expect you to really follow through, or didn't want someone else really involved with their business, especially if alot of their real profit comes from other stuff like repairs and sales of higher priced items. Members gorebuc
yeah, I find customer service transactions to be very awkward at music stores in general. i'm considering a job at my local music store that my friend says through his line of communications is "basically mine"... you know how that is, though. i'd probably be cleaning 7th graders flutes and clarinets more than anything, though...until some kid comes in with his Ibanez wanting me to setup his Floyd Rose...I'd consider suicide then...but on the sales floor, I could do Vidalia, GA the favor of keeping their local teenage bands from buying 120 gigawatt Crate amps with uber-cool DFX The last local show I attended had the most awful tones of all time... but, again, because of music store experiences in general, I don't know... Members Wilbo26
Yeah I think you should back away and just do it on your own. If he acted like ya'll never even discussed it after you hung out all day Saturday...{censored} that. They're just backpedaling.

At the store i work at all the accessories (straps, strings, turners, drum heads, ect.) are mark at retail. I think it is bull{censored} but the owner lives in another town and doesn't care. The way things are going everything is going to have to be sold at M.A.P., or all stores will go out of business. Only then can the Wal-Mart of guitar stores take over.
