Members fearofnightmare
I watched a Guitar World gear demo with him, and here's his setup: guitar into crybaby>whammy>phase 90>boss DD3>marshall jcm 900(maybe? could be different) He said he has never even touched his Phase 90, it's just there for looks. Members PurpleStrat
Oops.I meant overdrive/distortion pedal. I am only going by clips and I to want a pedal that does his tone so FWIW a Barber Direct Drive or Box of Rock. Let no one tell you a CrunchBox will do it!! Members ZJD
A Boss DS-1 has all the Marshall tones you would need to get that sound. Only diff is Wiki says he uses a DD-2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Morello
Members PFDarkside
He uses a JCM800 (2205?) It's the 50 watt channel switching 800. Any of the better Marshall sims would do a good job, I bet the new Box of Rock would work nicely.
Members barneyc4
what about a Keeley DS-1?
Members ZJD
what about a Keeley DS-1? That's a nice option if you don't want the stock pedal. Analogman also offers a modified DS-1, but I'm not really sure if there is that much of a difference between the two.

Members ZJD
I hadn't seen that demo yet. Looks like it does what the reg version does all right.

At a local store they tried them side by side and the only difference was the Vexter had more volume. They think it's the lack of paint.
Members Eric Dahlberg
A Keeley DS-1 won't do it, it's too scooped/harsh/DS-1 (DS-1 is more than just the name of a pedal, it's also an adjective defined as "sucky") for that. The Direct Drive is great but a bit too dark to pull off that nice clear tone he gets. I'd say Carl Martin Plexi Tone, based on some clips that were posted on the AC-pedal thread recently. The Box of Rock should also be good.
