Members -todgemistro-
I'm currently using a Behringer EQ700 in the loop of my GH50L just to shape the tone to my liking (a bit more mid and less of the highest treble slider). I'm not using huge boosts or cuts but when I engage the EQ the sound always seems more plasticcy, or fake. I cant really explain it but someone hopefully knows what I mean. Is that just the nature of a graphic eq or are some more realistic sounding than others? If so, should I go for a Fish'n'Chips, or MXR 6-band, or something else? Cheers
Members sense_of_henry
I have the Fish & Chips and the MXR 10-band, neither of them sound fake at all. I use them to subtly shape my tone and they do the job really well.
Members Johnny Beverage
There's nothing wrong with the Fish ! Try it outside the loop. The only time an EQ ever sounded "fake" to me was when people were going against the grain of the guitar they were using. Boosting the bass of a Dano with lipstick pickups or doing scoop gain thrash metal with a P90 equiped guitar...
Members slash81291
If you keep the EQing in reason it should not sound fake, like Johnny said, it should be used to sculpt your setups tone, not make a fender amp and strat into a scooped mids fire breather. Members T3
agreed, behringer eqs are pretty poor... if you need the full range of a 31 band look for second hand dbx or bss...
Members Johnny Beverage
Like Columbo said, "Just one mor thing..." Nevaer push any of the WQ sliders on the Fish to 100%. When I had mine it gave it an odd "doubling" effect that was out of tune with the notes or chords I was playing, back it off a touch and it was just fine... This may, however , have been due to the {censored}tyness of my rig at that time...
Members -todgemistro-
Ok, I may try a F'n'C then. I think I'm eq'ing within reason, all I want to do is drop the extreme treble and bass a touch and add some slight mids. These are the current settings I'm using (although the extreme treble is perhaps a bit too much?), pretty subtle I'd say (sorry for the blurry photo):

Members -todgemistro-
Thanks, I think I'll get a FnC I was also considering an old boss parametric eq (they seem to be on ebay a lot) but I think I'd spend hours tweaking and not enough time playing
Members PurpleStrat
My Laney really did not like any EQing outside of it's own. They have a touchy midrange like a Peavey C30.
Members dangerous dan
If you are running this in the loop of your amp then how have you got the amp EQ set ?

Closest thing to being bad I heard was the crazy noises it can make when you use the SAG on a PP2.
Members -todgemistro-
Well the amps eq is - presence 4, bass 3, mids 8, treble off Its a really bright amp hence the low treble and presence settings. When I disengage the EQ in the loop it sounds pretty scooped, good for a thrash tone but no good for hard rock imho.
