can i ask a stupid question about MXR pedals?

To make it easier to change settings with your foot.

 

 

that was one purpose i thought they might have.

does it just make it easier because it's a different height than the 2nd knob (if there is one)? more traction because it's rubber? or what?

More traction, that's why it's got little ridges in it. You really come to appreciate them when using stuff like the Micro Amp or the Blue Box, where you need to change settings quickly because you're switching guitars/sounds.

now that makes me wanna replace the knob on my treble booster with an MXR one!

When playing live outside here in Norway (winter time) I use these on all but my tube pedals

"Hand made hat for your gear knob. Available in a range of colours"
These are boutique knob warmers, all analog, and not cheap.
