Phil O'Keefe
2 1X12's for me... I think it sounds better because each is hooked up to a seperate amp, which means... STEREO BABY! Other than that, I'd probably opt for a 2X12 if it's for use with just a single head unless you have a problem carrying that much weight at once or have real portability issues / concerns. . Members papa taco
I would love to run a vox ac30 style head on a semi open back 4x12 with blues. 1x12's have that nice articulation thing going on but that bigger, warmer and slight phase cancellation in a multi speaker cab lessens the need for reverb or delay. That said, I would like to have a cabinet switcher hooked up so I could go back and forth between a 2x12 open back cab and a 1x8 with a ratty little old jensen from an old champ. Hahaha. Phil O'Keefe
What kind of 1x12's do you use?New Vox AC15cc with the stock Wharfedale replaced with a 15W, no dope, Weber AlNiCo Blue Dog. I really like the balls, chime and upper midrange complexity of that speaker, and the way it growls when I crank it up. A LOT. 1983 Fender Princeton Reverb II with the stock optional E/V 12F. A bit bigger on the bottom, harder to overdrive the speaker itself, great warm / clean / clear tones. I normally don't use the switching on the Fender for lead tones - it's mostly set so that both amps are on the edge of breaking up if I really dig in, and clean if I am playing more moderately. I either use one (or more ) of my OD's, or a fuzz or boost pedal for variations in lead / distorted tones. I think the pairing of Vox and Fender works very well together, and in spite of that E/V's weight, they're both reasonably portable and loud enough for the types of gigs I normally do. If I need more than that, they can run 'em through the PA. And it gives me two amps (so I can run my stereo effects) in a fairly portable rig. Members ScreamCage
The 1x12s give you stereo, but the 2x12 gives you a bigger, more powerful sound (in my opinion). The nicest cap I've ever used was a an old 2X12 Fender Deluxe Reverb (If I remember right. Could have been Vibrolux or a Twin.) cab that my uncle switched the speakers in. Make even my Powerblock sound absolutely amazing. I suppose my dream setup would be a 2X12 in the middle with a 1X12 on both sides of the stage. Dream... Members Klisk
I prefer 2 1x12's if only because it gives me the option of only playing 1 1x12, which is all I'd ever want.
