Members papamaverick
I love my Rat! I think it sounds awesome. Think Tele + Rat + small Fender = the sound from U2 "Vertigo" It's pretty close, I think that was the Line6 DM4 model that Edge used. (I have both DM4 and Rat and the model is spot on, FYI) Very thick, rather raw, in-your-face, tone control has a pretty wide effect, pretty compressed sounding when rocking (although has range to do milder stuff, too...I like the heavier range better myself), very midrangey, very "Marshall" to me although YMMV. Always wants to make me play AC/DC or Guns'n'Roses, etc. when I'm noodling around. Hope that helps ya in your decision Dave
Members lostandfoundpdx
my rat2 is awesome... its non-LM308n but still radical... i might throw the preffered chip in there someday just to try it out, but i'm more than happy with it the way it is. Members twoprongcrown
would a rat add something else to my set up? I believe it would add a Rat distortion tone to your set up.

Members gorebuc
it is probably the most versatile non-boutique distortion pedal around. its very nice i'm thinkin' about getting another one, this time a BYOC 3-way RAT
Members grayeyes777
rat would give you a little more gain (though i haven't heard the tsdx) and would give you a little more of a singing and sustained lead sound. big muff could be cool for you too though. Members j_nition
for me the rat was one of the biggest let downs for such a "classic status" pedal. No balls, No girth.

Members RJpilot
The vintage RAT is good shtuff. If its still in production. Its the new one that comes in the big retro box.Very thick and cuts through well but it has a loose fuzziness when the gain is maxed which i think is very cool.
