Members MidusGT
Hey, all. I'm just starting to get into pedal experimentation and I really don't know much about boosting. The only one I really know is boosting a hi-gain amp for more tightness and clarity, but what should I look into for lower gain applications? Right now I'm using an Orange Rocker 30, so how should I approach boosting? Should I do it to thicken up the sound? Add a little more gain? Boost the clean channel? One thing I thought was pretty pleasant to my ears was Scott Henderson's demo of the RC Booster pedal. Made things real thick and juicy. With so many boost/overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedals, it's hard to see what my opportunities are and which ones are good investments. Help out a boost noob! Thanks and regards,Daniel
Members HKSblade1
compression or EQ boost in the midrange. Sometimes it's better to change the eq than it is to change the volume level but that depends on the mix.
Members Northstar
Zoom PD-01 or Nobels ODR-1, but the Zoom is better at that.
Members magichours
When I was using a TSL100 I always preferred lowering the gain on the amp and boosting it with an SD-1 when playing at low volumes. Thickened the sound a bit as they got very fizzy at anything other than gig level.I used it when gigging as an additional gain stage to hide behind when soloing

Members lostandfoundpdx
i have a rocker 30 head and used a duncan pickup booster with great results... for both the clean and dirt channels. soon however i will be using a catalinbread sagrado stout boost instead, smoother, with more low end ooomph. Members Rushfan2112
I would be using a BYOC Triboost right about now, but I can't get the damn thing to work >:[

Or should I ask, what do you aim for with it? Thanks for the replies, guys! What is the opinion around here about the xotic RC booster?

What is the opinion around here about the xotic RC booster? It colors my tone a bit, but in a good way. I have my amp set on the verge of breakup and the Germania slams the front end, driving the amp into a sweet saturation.I'm getting some great controlled feedback at living room volume levels. For lower gain tones, just back off on the guitars volume knob.I looked at the RC Booster, but it's twice the price of a Germania.
