Members drasp
I have been ignoring my MIM 3TS standard Strat. It was given to me by a friend and is much better built than it has any right to be. I've heard rumors that during the time it was built (early 90s) there was a fire at the new Mexican plant and some of the work was done in the US. I think this may be one of those guitars. The body is two pieces of very nicely grained wood, the neck is beautifully figured maple, neck pocket is super tight, frets are nicely dressed, etc. Problem is, it just doesn't sparkle like a strat should. Sounds dull and flat compared to the Fralin in my Tele. I just found a set of 57/62 Strat p'ups on eBay. I should have them by late next week. The price was great, $83 shipped. They don't have the original plastic covers, but that's okay as the original plastic covers on my strat have aged perfectly. Anyone have experience with these pickups? Reviews seem very good on the HC site. I play through 2 Champs and love fuzz.
Members vigor&kandor
BUY THEM I played them in the Classic Players 50's strat. They sound Alot like my GFS Alnico Premium Strat set. The Fenders are alittle clearer, and have a better bass response.Thats a great price! EDIT*I love my GFS pickups, and the Fender's are the only thing i would think about replacing them with. Members drasp
Already bought them. Can't beat that price. I didn't realize they were the pickups in the 50s Classic Players Strat! I knew they were used in the Am Vintage series. I've only played one CP 50s, through a Pro Jr. and it sounded great! I'm really psyched now. Hmm. OT: Anybody know if the AM Standard Trem block fits the MIM bridge? I'd like a steel block, but the Callaham might be a little too much $$$. . . Members vigor&kandor
The blocks may not be interchangeable. It would be easier just to buy an American bridge with a full block and put it on there probably.
Members squareking
I really liked them, but I bought the CS '69s instead. They were almost identical clean, but the '69s sounded a little better with some overdrive IMO. EDIT: I'm thinking the same thing about the block. The newest MIMs have full-size blocks, so if they're still the same size as the older MIMs, then maybe they'll fit in perfectly.
Members vigor&kandor
I loved the way the 57/62's sounded with dirt. Bridge pickup with tone on '4' = THE {censored}!
Members PFDarkside
US Fenders will always sound better than MIM. THe MIM ones use a ceramic bar magnet underneath with steel pole pieces as opposed to the Alnico rod magnets in the US ones. I think it's kind of funny how a lot of the guys here will debate fuzzes to no end but won't give a second throught to pickups. The only guitar I own with stock pickups is a CIJ Tele with US Texas Specials. The rest have combinations of Duncans, Dimarzios and Rio Grandes. I'd like to try some Bare Knuckles too. Replacement pickups can really make a so-so guitar sound great.

Members jb1911
The 57/62 pickups are really nice sounding Fendery pickups. I have them in my '57 AVRI Strat. I also have a '62 AVRI Strat with Custom Shop '54s and they sound really really good. I don't know if it's the maple vs rosewood neck thing, but that's my opinion.
