The Silver Kiss

I got mine in today, #73. It was shipped to my dad's house so I have just gotten back home from picking it up pretty much. Played it about 20 minutes so not much of a review yet. I think it's a keeper though. I've tried out a lot of the 4 (or more) knob ODs but none of them really delivered. I've felt that all of them were either muddy or super bright no matter where you set the controls. The Silver Kiss really lets your guitar sound like your guitar. Having a mids control is amazing. Even without the OD this pedal would make a very nice EQ. I usually keep my guitar volume low and have a pedal to fatten up the sound (the SK in this case). The gain has to be at around 3 o'clock before any real OD kicks in with my volume set this low. My favorite setting for the gain is all the way up with my guitar volume dimed. I am getting some very nice Smashing Pumpkins siamese dream era tones like that, which is always a plus for me. I think this with the mayo is going to do some serious damage. I will mainly be using this as an "on all the time to fatten up my sound" pedal though, and for that so far it is the best I have found. The price is sweet as well. I'll add any more thoughts tomorrow after I can give it a thorough run thru.

just to show yourself what the pedal can do, set the gain just barely on, and all the other knobs at high noon. on or off, your sound should be exactly the same.

this eq design allows you to boost, or cut, your sound. add more gain, or cut your volume, for the same effect as your guitar volume.

these options give not just an OD, a distortion, a clean boost, a solo (mid) boost, treble boost, etc., but also a lo-fi unit to make your sound mousy, muddy, clanky, or anything else your insane mind desires.

pretty groovy i think...

I just finished tryng my first Catalinbread pedal tonight -- it's the Semaphore and I've been schooled.

I thought I knew what a good trem pedal sounded like...

I've been on an OD kick lately, and I don't think I'm even gonna' try to resist the Silver Kiss GAS.

THX C'Bread!!!

Mr Catalinbread - Did you design this with any tones (like the pumpkins) in mind or is that just something I'm alone in hearing?

Not really. I mean I like SP quite a lot but wasn't aiming for it. I just build stuff that makes me excited and hope at the very least it inspires players to make music. Sounds like a load of {censored} I know but it really is the truth.

Had a "first rehearsal" with what might become a new band. We spent the afternoon mostly jamming on tunes (singer couldn't make it). Anyway, the pedal that got the most use by far was the Silver Kiss (rhythm as well as lead). I could get just about everything I needed just by rolling the guitar's volume up an down with the occasional clean boost in front of it.

I like the way it conveys the guitar/amp's original tone and the available tweaks you can make. At higher volumes, you hear more "detail" in the clipping, and for me, just a little bit can go a long way.

Bass player commented on the clarity of the guitar's tone (most of the time, the SK was on).

Current settings:

Volume: 11:00

Gain: 11:00

Treble: 1:00

Mid: 2:30

Bass: 2:00
