Members jimmyc84
seems like a silly question i know, but i've heard a bit that one ought to give the speaker an extra few watts just in case? like a 50watt for a 30 watt amp etc? thinking about changing the speaker in a peavey classic 30 and looking at the jensen c12n which is rated for fifty watts but i wonder if it might be a bit clean and bright perhaps? so also considering the celestion g12h rated at 30 watts... i know the vintage 30 gets mentioned a fair bit for the classic 30 but reading stuff on www.watfordvalves.com mentions it being suited for "hard rock and thrash" which is not my style at all. is the vintage 30 really that 'hard rock'?? Members RoboPimp
unless you crank it full blast all the time I'd say you'd be fine.
Members RoboPimp
no, the V30 is not just for hard rock, it's an excellent speaker for many types of tones, you might really like the sound of a V30 in your amp. I use a pair with my JTM45 and it gives me great classic tones. Real nice break up to my ears too. is the vintage 30 really that 'hard rock'?? Members JackTheRipper
I was just about to post a very simlar question. I have an eminence red fang that is rated 30 rms/60 max. I was wondering if running it into an amp at about 30-40 watts would be ok
Members HKSblade1
Vintage 30 is rated at 60W. a speaker in the amp is rated near 1.5 to 2x the ouput power. You probably wouldn't notice much more in power than you would frequency response. Voicing spec of the speaker can change how they react at volume verses frequency and you might think its more power or less power depending on the speaker spec.
