Members TIKILOCKEDOUT
So my recent interest in seeing how some of the synth type pedals and effects might suit my requirements started with the GR-20 today - plugged it in and played around for 30 mins - got a fairly good go through the synth patches and many others. The verdict is great sounds, very interesting but way too digital for my tastes and not really what I was looking for. The tracking is ok for medium paced playing in single note passages but the moment you speed it up the tracking can't hack it and you get many dead spots ...it was fun but didn't win me over. Thank the gods for try before you buy! Then I had a crack at one of those funky cheap Epiphone 60 watt combo amps - twin channel with onboard effects like Flange, Reverb, Delay and Chorus. The feel and weight of these was solid - great looking product and the finish was excellent. These amps are circuit board jobbies ... probably voiced British more than anything else. I played this amp for quite a while and for $500 STREET in Aussie $'s I think it's a bloody good little amp and would certainly be a great house amp OR gigging amp that you used as a tax deduction throughout your gigging year ... simply dispose of at end of financial year etc ... as Chuck Berry called it ... "tools". It was a great sounding little amp ... the only thing was the EQ was a little bit flat and a little bit fat for my taste but if you spent some time with it and ran a dedicated EQ before the amp it would improve things at the amp end. All in all these are the best thing going in cheap amps and they look gorgeous! http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?ProductID=258&CollectionID=13 I bought nothing but playing, testing and looking sure was fun. If my 6 year old brother was a little older and just starting to play guitar this might be the amp I got him ... 12 month warranty etc ... they are great little amps with plenty of volume. The onboard effects are VERY good also ... the flange and delay settings are switchable as is the chorus and reverb and the amp comes with a footswitch for the onboard effects and channel switching! Members Brian Marshall
i thought the GR 20 was just a controller. You must have had it hooked up to a module or soemthing right? anyways, i keep wanting to buy one of those crappy 80's midi guitars just to see if there's any modding to be done. Anyways, back in my gigging days, I ran in to a band in seattle a few times... The only instrumental act we ever shared gigs with. They would always start out their show by saying "yeah, ummm our singer died last week in a car crash" They were a 3 piece, guitar, bass and drums. Anyways, the guitarist had an Axon midi controller. He didn't use it too often but when he did it really caught everyones attention. They would go from all out prog metal, to some 12th century flute ballad as a bridge. Wasn't really my kind of music, but I always had fun watching them play.

This thing is self contained and has all the sound inside it - you twist the dial in the various banks and then file through the sounds in those banks. You can then control with glide and hold and other things like attack and release etc etc - also delay and reverb etc etc. I got around needing to attach the GK-3 pick up by using one of those ready made Synth guitars that had the patch jack out to the controller.
