I sold this guy a 4track. He paid for it via paypal last saturday.

He sent me an email asking for a tracking number sunday morning...

I responded that I couldnt ship on a sunday, and that it would most likely ship Tuesday, because I had to work. I wasnt actually able to get it out until wednesday because of work (3 business days after he paid) As soon as I did I marked the order as shipped on ebay, and put the UPS tracking number in on paypal.

He sent me this message today.

"Uh yeah, it's been almost a week since I paid you, I've requested a tracking number, been told you would ship on tuesday, re-requested a tracking number on Wensday, and recieved no reply. Hopefully you've shipped and just haven't gotten back to me yet.. If I don't get some sort of reply by friday I'll have to contact e-bay...."

So is this guy a douchebag or am I over-reacting ?

I'm mostly upset because I am new to selling on ebay, and I dont have any feedback yet. I dont want some {censored} screwing me over for no good reason.

thanks for listening

END RANT

He's a slight douchebag.

I try to ship in a day or two after getting payment.

But If it's a hard item to pack, or I'm hectic, I've taken a week.

Since you emailed him, he should relax some.

I usually just say "Really sorry, hard to pack item/busy, whatever the case is, and get it out quick.

He's just nervous because you don't have feedback and doesn't want to get screwed. He could word it better, but I understand where he's coming from.

With established sellers, I just pay and don't even bother worrying about them contacting me, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, either way the stuff usually arrives within a week.

With zero or very low feedback sellers, if I don't hear anything for a day or two, I'll email a cordial request for info and keep following up if they don't respond, I never get nasty.

The one thing you don't want to do is get this guy pissed enough to leave you negative feedback since you're so new and will end up with a -1 rating. That's like the kiss of death. Try not to take his email personally, just send a nice apologetic email back to him saying you understand his position and apologize for the delay etc etc...

Good luck.

[/DR PHIL MODE] :)

my philosophy...

Ebay auctions should be shipped with in 24 hours of payment.

Now I usually try to time the auctions in such a way that I can do so. Of course some times i have people that end up not paying me for a few days after the auction ends, which can throw a wrench in the whole thing.

I've certainly had a couple screw ups where I don't ship until two or three days later, but they are extreemly rare.

Always state in your auction your shipping days.

I always follow-up with a personal email with tracking when it actually ships as well. I personally don't bother with going back to ebay to change the status of the item, nor do I go to ebay and check the status of anything I've bought. I take all of 30 seconds to compose a personal email and appreciate when that is done for me as well. Having some personal interaction takes no time whatsoever.
