Members guitarist_with_
Hi. Sorry I don't know a big deal about the quality of pedals etc. But I have a question. Are these good? I'm thinking about getting one. It was made in 1982 so I guess it's 'vintage', but that's not why I'm getting it. So what are your recommendations. If it's not a good choice, can you point me in a good direction for overdrive, thanks.
Members PGS412
Personally i think the OD-1 is a great pedal... getting rare around these parts! They sound good for both overdrive or as a boost, but the only drama is no tone knob.I use a modded SD-1 (for a dirty boost on my Marshall) and a Fulltone Fatboost for clean boosting

As for modding, I cant really get into that, no one around my area does anything like that and I can't be bothered ordering something from Keeley etc.

Members guitarist_with_
Can i please get some opinions? I was thinking of ditching this and going with a ts808.
Members W.A.S.
It's thick, asymmetrical, gets kind of trebly. Depends on your rig, I like it. I've never play an OD-3 but I've heard they're similar. OD-3 has a tone knob, might want to check those out if you're worried about a tone knob. Members L6Sguy
you might wanna tell us what amp you're using, cuz pairing that with say, a Jazz Chorus could yield less than what yer lookin for. the pedal is pretty damn good. but thats relative, y'know? Members dewd
dewd, get two of them, and blend them together for a smoothe sounding/ cascading distortion, kinda like the fender supersonic, but a different tone...

Ill soon be running through a DSL100. I've become aware of the Maxon OD-9 Pro+ and the Big Muff Pi Russian, though Im assuming the big muff makes a completely different sound to the Maxon and OD-1. Though it's come to my attention that the maxon would {censored} all over the OD-1, correct?
Members andreas
The OD-9 Pro+ is a tube screamer with a bunch of added features, which can be useful. If you want to use it to hit your amp harder, you can bump the internal voltage up to 18 volts (to get more clean headroom) and use the extra output the pedal has built in. You could also use the extra gain/saturation in boost mode, if you want more of the distortion coming from the pedal itself. The OD-1 is a similar circuit to the TS-9, but far less complex. Unless it's one of the very (rare) earliest models, it will be voiced a bit like a treble booster (it cuts out a chuck of the bass, so when you boost the level you'll boost the treble range more than the bass). This is handy if you plan on using it with a loud tube amp (read: old Marshall), but can be a bit annoying if you plan on using it with the amp set to more sane volumes. I'd probably get it and see what it can do for you - it's not a hard pedal to resell and get your money back from, and the OD-9 Pro+ is brand new and will be available later on if you want it. /Andreas
Members guitarist_with_
Yeah i was just thinking the same thing, about the Maxon being new. I've just come across one made in Japan in the 70's haha. Not a bad price tag either. Thanks for your help.
Members rushtallica
I've been reading some good reviews of the Boss OD-3, which apparently retains bass and doesn't suck tone. I'm definitely going to check one of those out.
