Members omor
im finally doing it, taking the plunge. i bought a pod xt pro last night to handle amp sims before my signal hits the computer (because i dont want to allow resources to get tied up by software amp sims). I plan on continuing to use my orange stack and a twin reverb i recently picked up cheap, and then mix in my altered guitar signal (loops, some effects, etc) and then go from laptop to PA for the drum loops and whatnot. I'm probably going to end up using either ableton live or reaktor 5, depending how abstract i want to get with reaktor. I have yet to get a laptop, it'll be an apple when I do, until then my imac will suffice. I have yet to get an interface with enough ins and outs to support what I'm doing. anyway, this still seems to be uncharted territory. I'm not looking to have pre-programmed backing like so many of the laptop-aided bands out there, i want the whole thing to sort of live and breathe live... which is why I've been playing around with ableton live so much with the quantized loop recording, and all the arrangement capabilities. I'm kind of looking to do a slow and mean ambient/drone/post rock sort of thing. I'm really curious if anybody here can recommend acts like this. The only person I can really think of that does the instrument and laptop sort of thing well is squarepusher and its not really a place i can look for inspiration. Boards of Canada kinda had the right idea, if i'm not mistaken they did live guitar stuff while playing their campfire headphase album, but i didnt see them for that and I'm not sure. anybody else have any cool bands I should check out? eh? Members omor
no idea, but ive been considering trying this with my macbook pro, amp sims, pedalboard, guitar, and pro jr. i havent found a software amp sim that sounded good. The pod xt series sounds good enough, plus its hardware and one less thing to worry about in the computer. I've got a lot on my plate getting this all to work right, I'm probably going to build a signal routing system for unprocessed guitar signal for switching between amps, and at the same time I'm going to try and keep my twin and orange signals separate, so i can do clean loops and effects independent of my overdriven ones. as far as controlling the beast, I've got a 49 key axiom controller, as well as a behringer fcb1010 foot controller, I'm hoping to get an interface that doubles as a nice live mixer as well, maybe the motu traveller or something, set up those independent amp feeds (with reamps out of the box, and signal mixers built in, probably an ABY setup for my feet purposes all in the same box), A PA stereo feed, and a cue feed for probably a wireless earbud monitoring system (for my personal mix as well as metronome in those gnarly spots). talk about a midi nightmare setting all the stuff up to control my software parameters, patch selection in the pod XT pro... I only recently started to consider the setup nightmare of the live rig, between all the midi cables, guitar cables, PA feeds, etc...its going to take forever and suck the whole time setting up/breaking down with the amps and other stuff. I won't trust anybody else to set it up, either. Guess I'll need a roadie to carry the stuff in, ha. MGR was a great recommendation, I saw he was mentioned earlier in the ambient recommendation thread too, I couldn't find any of the music under the name mustard gas and roses (turned up a Jakko album on itunes), but the MGR abbreviation got me what I needed elsewhere! Members beardcom
i figure i can get the same tones from the pod software as the hardware maybe, and i can download that for free by being a pirate on teh internet!

Glad you enjoyed it! I've been listening to it nonstop for a few weeks.
