Members Suilebhain
I recently purchased a black Sovtek Big Muff and it gives off a hum that is pronounced when I turn the Tone knob to the bass side, which is annoying because the pedal sounds so sweet there otherwise. The hum is gone when the box is switched off. Did I get a lemon or is something that all Big Muff users ignore because of the rest of the sound? Somehow I have a hard time believing the Gilmour has anything on his board that adds noise like that. I had a battery in it, now I have it hooked up to a pedalboard power supply. Members TweedBassman
yeah, i think "big muff" means "hum box" in russian. there are mods to kinda help with it, but it's the nature of the muff.
Members greatwhiteclark
I find you can get away with a pretty low setting on the drive and still have a big fuzz sound. Just try recducing the gain a bit. But, yeah muffs are noisy.
Members Suilebhain
I would imagine that Gilmour and people like him who are reputed to use Big Muffs have also paid people to mod them for cleanup. Thanks for the feedback. I was just concerned that I got a bad one.
