Maybe the XL has a way for you to do it live a little easier, on the one I had the reverse function was pretty useless because you had to bend over and press the little button to use it. It has reverse, and a footswitch out for a reverse, too. The only difference that I can recall, really, is that there is 16 minutes of recording time on the XL and 5:30 minutes on the rc-20. Yeah I really think its just the time that's a difference, and if you need more than 5 minutes of loop time you might as well just get a multitrack recorder of some kind.
