Members utterhack
So did Jobs basically just tell the Big 4 to take their DRM and stick it up their collective ass? Not exactly. He said he'd be happy to drop it whenever they are, but until then it's their ball and their rules. Note that this comes on the heels of a lot of interesting legal activity in the EU, e.g... http://www.ft.com/cms/s/1fc40360-abe9-11db-a0ed-0000779e2340.html Norway declares Apple

Members ChitownTerror
This is one more reason the RIAA sucks. Unfortunately, if you play live, most venues pay the RIAA a license fee for live music. I can't get away from supporting those evil bastards no matter how hard I try. Members fernmeister
So did Jobs basically just tell the Big 4 to take their DRM and stick it up their collective ass? I think he told consumers that if they don't pressure the big 4 (and their european governments) to get rid of DRM it will mess up the market. Members utterhack
I dunno. How are teh wacky euros pressuring their socialist governments to rule iTunes in restraint of trade currently That's a chunk of what this is about. Jobs is pointing out to the Euro courts that they're shooting the (conveniently American) messenger.

Members kittycaster
Well the majority of media is still currently distributed on CD/DVD but eventually they will go the way of the dodo bird and 8-track cartridge. So protection of intellectual property via DRM will become a relevant issue eventually since all media will probably be distributed electronically in our lifetime.I dunno. As musicians, we would hope to be able to make some money off of our music, right? Or is everyone cool with having their album ripped and sent around the internet for free? Now if you will excuse me, I gotta go check on my Limewire downloads..... Musicians make most of their money through concerts, if I'm not mistaken...if I had music to put out, I'd want it to get to as many people as possible as fast as possible so those folks would come to my shows.
