Anyone here tried cascading a distortion pedal into an overdrive pedal (backwards)?

Let me start off by saying that this is one of those lame "searching for validation" type threads.

Anyway, I bought a Keeley DS-1 Ultra, thinking it would sound bad ass in front of my Vox Pathfinder 15R. Well, as it turns out, that pedal is really "picky" about what amp you plug it into (it sounded great through the Fender tube amp I tested it through at the guitar store). The result was this dirty, raspy kind of distortion, which sounded ok, but it just wasn't the sound I was after.

So I tried messing around with the settings, and finally I tried sticking my Bad Monkey between it and my amp. In other words, I put the OD after the Distortion, instead of before, which is what one would typically do. I set the gain knob on both pedals to zero, and that did the trick. The BM gives me a nice, "tubey", slightly broken up sound, and then I step on the DS-1 to bring the rock. For metal, I crank the gain knob on the BM.

Just wondering if anyone here has ever tried something similar.

That's a pretty common way of smoothing out nastier pedals such as fuzz, I see no reason why using it with something like the DS-1 wouldn't sound great as well. Cascading dirt pedals is a great way to get a variety of sounds. I've done this with a boatload of pedals, works great.

So if its working great for you, have at it! :thu:

No, I have never tried putting an amp in front of any pedals. I guess not only do we have to worry about cable polarization, but now we have to worry about pedal polarization now, too?

I run my Univalve into pedals into another amp or board all the time...sounds freaking crazy awesome nice.
