Fuzz pedal for Stoner rock

Hi. I play in a stoner rock/metal band. and i use my Vox Clyde McCoy Wah, Deluxe Memory Man and a T-Rex Mudhoney for distortion (set to boost function, which gives it sort of a fuzzy sound). but i'd like to have a Fuzz pedal that suits the genre a little better.

it has to be quite cheap. so i've primarily got the EHX Big Muff and Dunlop Fuzz Face in thoughts. These should have the right sound for that kinda music.

So which one to choose? or do you got better suggestions??

(sorry 'bout the (maybe) bad english written above)

How cheap is cheap?

Depending on your style, you might like:

EHX Little Big Muff (straightforward fuzz)

EHX Big Muff (little more bass heavy, not as good sounding imo)

Russian Big Muff (little thinner, but I like it)

Boss FZ-2 (good garage sounds, and another mode that can get VERY heavy)

Boss FZ-3 (cheaper, more straightforward, but great sounding)

DOD Classic Fuzz (ditto)

BBE Free Fuzz (clone of the original Fuzz Face, IIRC. Sounds awesome)

Voodoo Labs Superfuzz (very versatile, I dig it)

BYOC fuzzes (all worth checking out)

Effector13 makes some relatively cheap fuzzes (the new mini Soda Meiser is GREAT), as does Monsterpiece (duderanimous is his handle here). The NPN and PNP fuzz are both worth checking out, you'll dig 'em.

i don't know somewhere near the prices of the two named pedals. but name one, then i'll look at it. if you've got something specific in mind

Zlandicar's list looks pretty good. I would also check out the Foxrox Hot Silicon, it can do the stoner thing pretty well. And the Ibanez FZ7 is cheap but cool.

I was trying to find the same thing a couple of months ago and I picked up a pretty cheap Effector 13 Torn's Peaker plus. It does the job and them some, I play a les paul tuned to C through it into a marhsall 6100 and I don;t think I'll be needing another fuzz any time soon.

thanks for the many (and fast) answers. it looks great. i already know a couple of them.

i guess i am interrested in the Monsterpiece Npn. but i'm quite unfamilliar about buying stuff on the internet.

A guy on here, Duderanimous, makes them. Richard is an awesome guy to deal with and makes awesome stuff. Here are his clips...http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=520547

zoom ultra fuzz or little big muff or byoc tonebender mkII.

+1

But I'd spend a little more and get a Skreddy Mayo.

Other great candidates are BajaTech Da MOAF, Stress FX Ram's Head Clone, HBE UFO (see one for sale in my sig!) and Effector 13 stuff (there was a Muff clone w/boost that's not on the site anymore, but Devi might make one if you ask)

Best bang for buck out of all of these if you really need to keep the price low is the Stress FX for $75 shipped new if you can get one. It's an ugly-looking pedal but sounds absolutely killer.

I have very similar gear. GH100L-1960a (greenbacks) and a LP STD. I must say though...my NPN fuzz (as well as any other fuzz I've tried {muff, bb-jr} ) sounds amazing through my jcm 800 but sounds weird through my laney (6l6). It sounds sputtery and glitchey no matter what I do and I don't know why. Anyone know why this might be and what I can do to change it?

If I've learnt one thing from playing in a stoner rock/metal band it's that you should never underestimate the power not using fuzz can have in differentiating you from all the other stoner rock/metal bands.
