Members theweight
I rarely get an answer I like from the amp forum, so I'm asking my Fender folks instead. Anyone have any experience with Mesa 12AX7s in a Fender amp? There's a tube lot at TGP that has some stuff I'm looking for, including these. I need a new Pre-amp tube set for my Bassman and I thought I might give them a shot.
Members erksin
I don't know if Mesa has different gain factors for their 12AX7s, but the ones I tried once were way too hot for my Princeton - the amp broke up in a really fizzy/harsh way. No likey...
Members theweight
That's no good. I'm looking to clean up my Bassman a little, so it looks this won't do it.
Members JoshuaLogan
mesa don't make tubes. they're just rebranded... sovteks I believe.. as for the sound.. not sure... don't think you'd run into any problems though. you may want to look up that guy doug from doug's tubes and ask him about tone questions
Members theweight
I was planning on doing that with thetubestore, but I found this deal and thought I might be able to save a few bucks. The Svetlana power tubes I need are part of the set, which is why I was considering it.

Try a nice 5751 or 12AY7 - I love a 5751 in v1 of most all Fender amps, a little more headroom and tighter bass.
Members HKSblade1
I use JJ's in my Twin and they are fine. I'll have to try the 5751 thx
Members lostandfoundpdx
mesas rebrand lots of tubes, sovteks, rubys, etc. they have an article about their tubes on the website that explains the codes (in context to which tube is from what origin) mesa talks about crazy screening for their tubes, but i have had worse luck with mesa branded tubes than i have with any one manufacturer. not that it matters, but i have gone to using exclusively JJ tubes from bob at eurotubes, i have never had a set {censored} out on me or act strangely outside of their normal life cycle.
